So, last week I ordered a sundress from Ruche. It shipped via USPS so it had Track & Confirm on it. Thursday I check from work and it goes from “RECEIVED AT [local post office]” to “OUT FOR DELIVERY” to “DELIVERED” at 11:38 AM. I come home all excited to find…nothing. No package. I figure, oh, he must have left it on the front porch (I live in a duplex and our mailboxes are in the back, but sometimes packages get left on the front porch for whatever reason)…nothing there either. I look all around our property thinking maybe he dropped it or it got blown away somehow…nothing. So I figure, eh, maybe it was a mistake, I’ll wait until tomorrow.
Well, four days later and it has not yet been delivered. I called USPS customer service last week and they said they’d investigate and gave me a case number and everything, and said they’d call back within one business day. When they didn’t call back, I called them and asked about it. They said they sent the info to my local post office and for me to call there.
So I call the local post office and speak with the manager. He said he received my case from customer service and that he would talk to my mailman when he got back from his route, and for me to call back around 3:30 which is when they get back.
Call back at 3:30, he says that the mailman distinctly remembers putting the package in my mailbox, he recognized my name and knew which house it was and knew that it was one of the houses with mailboxes in the back. He remembers it was a small, soft package and that it fit in the mailbox, and that’s where he put it. I said that that was impossible, because the package was not there. He said that I should call Ruche and ask for a replacement, because there’s nothing else to be done.
Now, I suppose it’s possible that it was stolen, but personally I think that is a slim chance. I live in a very safe neighborhood, and even if someone did want to steal my mail it’s not as if they could see the mailbox from the street, because our backyard and the shed and trees back there completely block the entire house from view from the street behind the house. There’s no way a thief would know we even had mailboxes back there unless he/she came into our yard to look. Plus, would a mail thief really steal a small, soft package? Clearly there’s nothing valuable in it; it would have felt nothing like a jewelry box or something collectible/valuable.
I checked with all the neighbors and they didn’t accidentally receive my package either.
My SO thinks I should file a police report. I think this is overklll. But goddamn that was a cute (and expensive) dress I ordered and I’d really, y’know, like to have it, or at least be reimbursed.
What do you think I should do? I’ve never had lost/stolen mail before!
