bellanotte11:  I personally wouldn’t eat it but I think it would make a beautiful and unique cake topper.  I think something like the second idea without the middle gelatin section.  You could get some small ones like the third idea to put around that.  I think that would be really cool.  Do you know what kids of flowers you are having?  Could they be echoed in the gelatin?  And it sounds like you should try jello poke cake. It’s not traditionally for weddings but it’s fun and tastes good. 🙂

I hate jello texture so just the thought if this makes me gag. They’re very pretty but you couldn’t pay me enough to eat that cake.

It looks beautiful! But I would only admire it from afar!

I thought you were out of your mind but then the pictures totally sold me on the idea. Those gelatin cakes are amazing looking. What if the bottom two layers are regular cake and the top layer is the gelatin cake, a big blooming gelatin flower on top? FWIW, I would totally eat the gelatin — especially since it is so novel!

bellanotte11:  Yeah, I totally get it. It is so sophisticated and artistic. I would be AMAZED if I were at a wedding and given one of those cups with a blooming gelatin flower in it. People would talk about it for years.

We have a large asian population where I live and these cakes have been around for years. Our neighbors would always give us one for Tet. And they are so gross. its not normal jello its slightly firmer and not so sugary sweet  If i went to a wedding and they had jello Id be bummed that they didnt have regular cake.

How about a normal cake for the non-adventurous majority, and do a “grooms cake” small gelatin cake for you & husband, plus any adventurous guests can try it.  I think they are pretty and fun, and I personally would at least give it a try.
