Hey Artist Bees,
I went to art school for undergrad and graduated cum laude. So obviously, there was some subjective skills there. Art school did a total number on my confidence as an artist, however. I never felt creative or critical enough.
Basically, I felt like I lifted my foot up to take a step, but never went so far as to put it back on the ground again to move forward. Does that make sense?
I have not painted or drawn or ANYTHING since graduating, nearly 15 years ago.
I am starting to get the itch to CREATE again, and I really want to scratch! But, I am also TERRIFIED. I never thought I was any good during art school, and now being out of practice for so long I can only imagine how rough things are going to be for a bit.
Basically, I need you all to kick me in the butt. Any advice?
Also, I never really felt like I developed my own “style.” Do you feel like you have a style? What do you do to push yourself creatively so that you go past what is comfortable and really start digging in? (I do recall have a few projects that I pushed past my own assumptions of what the project should be, and boy, isn’t that the best feeling ever?)
