….ooh I wanna take ya to Bermuda, Bahamas, come on pretty mama….

Sorry, I couldn’t resist–I’m a child of the nineties 🙂

As far as your question goes, I’ve never been to either, so I’m really not much help here haha.

@jaybird12: I see I came too late to be the first to burst into that song, so maybe I’ll join you with a “Key Largo, Montego, baby why don’t we go down to Kokomo…” Might I add that I assume they mean Montego Bay, which is in Jamaica, so I guess that means Jamaica wins!

Just as long as you get there fast and take it slow, it’ll be all good =P  Lol!  Don’t go to Jamaica, though.  I’ve been there.  Not the safest place to travel.

I hear nothing but good things about Aruba. Any time of year it’s perfect weather, it’s not a crazy club hot spot and the island is safe enough to leave the resort and explore. Jamaica however I would be cautious of where I went as it is not a very safe place in many areas. I knew a woman who was born and raised in Jamaica and she always vacationed in the Cayman Islands. She preferred them much more than her homeland.

@Pinksapphire:

What did you personally find unsafe about it? I know that the murder rates are high, but as a tourist, I was lead to believe Jamaica is very safe.

@Cash000: I went to Jamaica and felt 100% safe the entire time. Pretty much as long as you dont wander alone, go to Kingston or do anything stupid you should be fine. I honestly feel more scared sometimes in DC than I did in Jamaica. Esp if you are going to an all inclusive resort you have nothing to worry about!

Well that’s the thing…You have to stay on the resort. And I’m sure it’s beautiful but if you like a little adventure off the beach, you may prefer Aruba.

We stayed at Couples San Souci and really enjoyed it but I’ve heard good things about both CN and CSA. Don’t know about Aruba, but Jamaica was great 🙂

@LauraCYW: The owner at the salon I go to just came back from Negril, Jamaica. She and her husband did not stay at an all inclusive. They ate our every night, went to different bars, and eplored the town and beaches, without a tour guide. They said they always felt safe in that particular tourist town, and never encountered any problems.

@PitBulLover: We’re getting married there this winter. So I have been following alot of the Jamaica threads, and forums online. They say if you stay on your resort you should be fine. I guess my worries with our resort is that, its not a hotel, we’re staying in. It is all inclusive, but each room is a bungalow, on stilts, and there aren;t even windows. However, it is secured,and there is security 24/7, but still…..The safety is worrying me, but I am trying not to worry. I have been following the Jamaican Observer, and there is ALOT of crime out there, but all with the locals, within certain parishes.

Ok, I’ll stop now.

As for the OP….

I have been to niether, but we chose Jamaica. We chose this place because it had the resort we were looking for, within our budget.

@Cash000: I really wouldnt worry. As a tourist, you should be fine. Tourism makes up so much of the economy in Jamaica and much of the population works at a hotel or resort so they want you to be comfortable, in order to get your money!

@PitBulLover:

I know, I’m sure we’ll be fine. And crime can happen to anyone anywhere, so really, unless I’m hanging out in the gang affiliated areas, I’m sure we’ll be ok.

I’ve never been to Aruba but I loved Jamaica.  I stayed in Ocho Rios though.  Left the resort and everything and loved it!  GORGEOUS BEACHES!!

I have been to both places and by far I would say ARUBA.  The weather there is perfect, it’s hot with a lovely breeze you cannot beat that!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT.  And yes it’s much more safer. When I went shopping at Ocho Rios ( in the tourist area) a guy came up to and said he wanted to marry me will i didn’t have to say much because the police jumped out of no where with a riffle telling him to leave me alone.  You make the choose.  Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed Jamaica but you CAN NOT bet Aruba!!!!! I call it the next best thing to Hawaii!
