In almost all Mexican weddings and Quinceneras I’ve attended every centerpiece is accounted for by someone almost immediately into the party. Some people are even tacky enough to not even wait for the event to be over before they send their poor kid to place the centerpiece in their car. I have even seen people bicker over who gets to take it (if they’re at the same table).
Trust me this is no joke! Mexicans just love filling their homes with tacky centerpieces and even tackier favors and use them as home decor. As you can tell, I can’t stand this. People’s homes end up getting cluttered with junk that have glitter and ribbons with poeple’s names on them.
So if you don’t want your centerpieces taken DO NOT INVITE ANY MEXICANS ( or other latinos for that matter). lol.
You can however invite me, cuz this Mexican does not want your centerpiece!

I had this drama at my work xmas party last year! The venue incl decorations in the package – there were lovely table runners, and rectangular vases full of string beads & ornaments. Back at work on Monday I heard that someone (quite high up!) got a bit rowdy & left with a table runner & strings of beads round her neck. I was mortified.

@dynamic_duo: Maybe if it’s not presented as telling them not to steal, because, yikes! Would not go over well, but maybe letting them know that the centerpieces are rented and have to be returned or they’re personal items, as in “We know people are normally able to take home centerpieces but in this case ______” You’re not telling them they’d be wrong to take one (stealing) under normal circumstances. If you make it out that you’re the wierd one not them it always goes over better, lol.
But no, I wouldn’t take one home unless it was clear that it was ok i.e. family tradition or being told.

@HeMadeMeWantTo: Hmmm, what about a half cuban wedding? LoL though since I’m just decorating bottles and jars and having Ikea tealights I don’t mind if they go, but I’d like to keep a little bit!

lol. Alhtough I have been to Cuba, I can not comment on their centerpiece stealing status! Good luck!!

I have never heard of that, that’s so weird.

Please don’t take mine! I rented my vases from my florist!
I will probably offer up the flowers to any takers though.
