I like both but I prefer a plated meal.  Like someone else said, to me they seem more elegant and I dont have to worry about standing in line to get food or being dismissed table by table.

I like either. But I prefer plated. I agree with naangel55. Plus, I never really like having to get up to get my food… or waiting to be dismissed.

Both work in different settings for different reasons.

I prefer plated.  Without fail I always sit at the table that’s farthest from the buffet or the last released to get in line.  I think it can be kind of a hassle if not well-executed.

I think both are great and it depends on the size and style of the wedding. We are having a smaller wedding (60 guests) and we’re doing a buffet. While I agree with everyone that I don’t necessarily like people having to get their own food, everything else I love about the buffet. Some people will eat A LOT more so they won’t go hungry. People can decide at “that moment” what they would like to have instead of having to decide a month in advance. If they don’t like something from the buffet, they can go get something else quickly. Just makes more sense to me…

I prefer plated, but have been to two weddings where they had absolutely lovely buffets. I’m a bit guilty of not expecting much from the word ‘buffet’ but it can be great, so either is fine!

I prefer plated.  It is cheaper (contrary to most people’s beliefs).  Also, you should consider how many old people and young people (kids) you’ll have.  I’m having lots of old people (even older than my parents’ retired siblings).  I can’t see them balancing their plates and having to walk around tables.  The same applies if there’s lots of kids.  Kids on the loose with a buffet line can spell disaster.

Still, for a smaller wedding with more peers than old or young people, a buffet’s great!

No standing in line for food…Plated for the win!!

There’s something about buffets that transforms guests into people who act like savages that will never be fed again.  It makes me nervous.  Plated is much more relaxed and easy going.

I prefer the food to be good. I really want good food at my wedding. Out of all of the weddings that I have gone to I don’t really care if it was seated or buffet, but I do remember if it was good.

I know that this has nothing to do with it but I have always had the best times at weddings that were plated.  I guess it is my silly superstition but that is the beautiful thing about a wedding.  It is your choice… and your FH too 😉

I picked plated as well. One because it feels a bit awkward to me to walk around with the plate (also because I’m clumsy)! Also, if it’s a larger wedding there’s the potential for lines to gather around certain stations. I also find them to be more elegant, but that’s just my opinion. As long as the food is good, your guests will be happy with whatever you serve them!

I’d rather have a plated dinner. I don’t like getting up and walking around if I don’t have to, and I think if you have a buffet and it isn’t done correctly there is a bit of chaos that ensues. People milling around, gettng messy if they are serving themselves, people taking too much food, and by the time the last person comes up food may be cold.
