As a guest, which engagement party would you prefer?

I prefer evening parties. There’s something about afternoon parties in the middle of the day that irks me.

But I agree with a PP. Would an engagement party in the evening look like a wedding reception?

I agree with evening but you can still keep it casual and not do photo booth.

I’m probably the minority but I prefer afternoon parties. So much so that our wedding was in the afternoon. I think I’m just more a fan of laid back and casual.

Where I live, afternoon parties are for kids birthdays and more formal types of adult engagements, like the opening of an exhibition, opening of a new bistro, etc. Not the kind you can let your hair down. Weddings are almost always in the afternoon, with receptions in the evening.

I prefer evening parties if it’s the weekend. Weekend afternoons is my time to run errands, do laundry, go on a hike, get weekly groceries and maybe even a batch of cooking or gardening and do chores. If a fun party was in the afternoon I’d be too blitzed out/tired to get anything done and after coming home and be resentful about losing a whole day to get outdoor stuff done. So for this reason I’d rather party in the evening than attend an afternoon party and be all blitzed out in the evening.

Do what is best for your social circle.

I would prefer afternoon, more casual. I don’t really like the party vibe and I don’t like being out late, so I’d probably stop by for an hour or two and leave early. That said, I’m sure most people would prefer evening, especially if that’s the norm for your crowd.

It’s all personal preference, of course. I’d prefer the afternoon party, but I tend to lean toward more laid-back gatherings than formal ones. I agree with PP that the evening party sounds like a wedding reception…I would personally save the photo booth and heavy food for the actual reception to avoid any been-there, done-that mentalities regarding your special day!

The more formal the better! I love getting all done up and seeing my guests do the same.
