I feel your pain. Im a civilian worker and I am about to lose 22 days worth of pay…..it equates to over $800 a month loss of my take home pay. That does not even include the hit my retirement will take. I especially loved when Nancy Pelosi said that congress should not have to take a pay cut if sequestration happens bc a lot of them are the “breadwinners” of their families. Yeah, I guess the rest of us just work for sh*ts and giggles.

Hang in there….hopefully they will negotiate this mess soon and the DoD won’t end up taking such a huge hit

Just remember this feeling when the midterm elections come up.  It’s our Congress that is screwing the pooch on this one. And the mainstream opinions polls show that everyone thinks Congress is doing a horrible job, but most folks think “their” senator or “their” representatives are doing just fine. They’re clearly not.

Take the time to actually go vote, and vote on a candidate who isn’t afraid to negotiate and compromise.

@NaijaPuertoDorian:  ah, got ya. well if thats the understanding you entered under they need to follow through (even if retroactively once this anti-tax postering blows over)

@tangentialbee:  In this instance BOTH sides failed. It is such a joke how they took the entire week before off for President’s day, AND everyone left the day before the sequestration went into effect….they did not even stay to TRY and work something out.

I count my blessings that I finished my master’s program last year bc a lot of my co-workers are also having to pay out of pocket for their tuition.

@OtterHalf:  welll i dont recall a democratic congress ever using paying bills and keeping promises as a tool for leverage. just republicans (under gingrich and boehner). they both have faults but this is an exclusively republican thing. What used to be largely ceremonial has become a redundant fundraising opportunity. “we wont let those liberals raise your taxes! send money soon!”

It is just so sad that it is affecting our troops. as if they dont sacrifice enough as is.

@tangentialbee:  oh, I’m not saying you are wrong. I am a democrat, but I’m so digusted by the whole situation that I am holding congress as a whole responsible. I def agree with you tho.

Darling Husband is a federal employee and his pay is going to be cut by at least 10% for the foreseeable future. We are lucky that we don’t NEED that income to survive, but it is going to make saving to buy a house more difficult. I just started a new job after being unemployed for a couple of months so that will help out.

Ugh, I feel for ya girl.  I’m so sorry.  My Fiance is a vet and his GI Bill has been a blessing in disguise for him.  I have a mortgage worth of student loans & I couldn’t imagine him racking up a mortgage as well.  Keep your chin up — I hope things get better!  A whole bunch of my friends are about to get laid off because of this.  I’m so over politics.
