I’ve seen people use gorgeous tiles, which I’m sure you could find pretty cheap at a local tile center or Home Depot-type place.

Cloth squares, the colors that go with your wedding, burlap, textured cloth, whatever u want. Makes a white table cloth look not as empty.

Or, scatter flower petals around them like this

This is the cloth I meant. This shows a black table cloth with a printed black/white damask cloth square .

@Luv2BeachIt:  Oh my, those tiles are absolutely stunning.  I hadn’t ever considered using anything like that before, but that’s such a good idea.

Thanks for starting this thread OP.  I now have one more thing to add to my decor list!  Haha  🙂

I’m doing multiple different vintage table squares that will be over the tableclothes. I am also using hard back books. Attached is an example of a centerpiece test I did on my kitchen table. The cloth with the flowers is the table square. Our tableclothes themselves will probably all be white or beige. 🙂

I’ve seen centerpieces surrounded by a frame, laying on the table, either empty, backed with fabric, or filled with moss and rocks.

I’ve also seen a lantern centerpiece on a pretty round placemat (see http://housefullofpretty.com/2011/wedding-diy-centerpieces/) – you could probably do the same with candles.

I’m a fan of burlap or the scrapbook paper idea. 🙂
