im an office manager for a small family operated printing press, im going on 4years here. I got three raises within the first year and havent gotten a raise since. The economy has been bad and business got slow, Boss laid off the other employees so its only me and him working. Ive taken on more responsibility than i already had, on top of what i normally do, im doing deliveries, and handling some graphic design jobs for the past 3-4months, when he takes a vacation i handle the business on my own.
I NEED a raise i get paid 17/hr, the thing is HOW do i ask for a raise? i know were not as busy as we used to be BUT i am doing more.
The raise is really important if i dont get it, ill be quitting and being a Stay-At-Home Mom.
tips and advice appreciated.

Depending on your relationship with your boss, this could be more or less difficult. Explain to him that you understand the financial situaiton of the printing press, but that with your increased responsibilities, you feel you also deserve a comparable raise. Be honest. Be fair. Explain that you understand his perspective, and explain yours, clearly, calmly and reasonably. Don’t use the fact that you’re considering leaving as a threat, just try to make him understand that it may be something you have to do for youself, nothing against him or the company.

We have a good relationship i would say, when hes given me raises in the past its been through email or notes, never face to face.
i was thinking of sending him an email explaining exactly what you said and let it be from there. i would never mention the fact that i might leave if i dont get a raise lol
