Coco Brown Walker : We used a very sought after local photographer for our engagement pics and while they were beautiful and artsy they weren’t us. A hour or so long session was $800. I’m so glad we did engagement pics with her before committing thousands for our very small courthouse wedding and dinner reception.
We ended using a photographer who we adore and have used since of newborn and family pics. We got married during the week so she agreed to charge us her hourly portrait rate. I recommend getting married on not a Saturday if you can to see if you can get a similar deal. I ended up paying slightly less for 3 hours of photography than I did for our engagement pics.
If you can afford/want engagement pics it would be a great way to decide if a pricey dream photographer is worth it.

Update: I was doing some research on venues and photographers. I found this photographer that has beautiful pictures that is exactly my style of photography. She started 2 years ago BUT has great reviews on many of the wedding websites, is not located far from me and does hourly wedding photography that fits my budget. Her photography is so good, you would think that she has at least 10 years of experience under her belt. I guess I had to look outside of what I was looking at which were the best in my area. However, she is a new comer with skills that will be soon given the recognition she deserves just like the rest….I am happy now 🙂

We had our photographer only for a few hours. We talked about it before signing the contract. It is a detail that can be worked out.
