Told my mom about the diamond and she was surprisingly supportive and excited. It was very out of character and absolutely awesome. Long conversation short, she mentioned that my dad would be happy if my guy talked to him before he proposed. This is pretty important info and given the non-traditional, assbackwards path our relationship has taken I figured it’s important that we preserve some part of tradition for our families. Told my guy what my mom told me. Guess what he said?
“I planned on asking. The biggest reason I wanted your family to visit next year before we got married was because I wanted the opportunity to talk to him, look him in the eye, and ask him for his permission to marry you.” pause…and ahhhhhhhhh 🙂 Where not terribly verbally emotional people and our conversations usually consist of something you wouldn’t want anyone to over hear and end with one of us tapping out with a, “What’s wrong with you?” 🙂 But it was so sweet. I couldn’t stop smiling. As cheesy as what he says sounds, just hearing it was so amazing and felt so genuine.
Due to distance it’s would be hard to arrange that meeting. I was wondering if any of you think a guy (any guy, yours, mine, someone else’s) would possibly propose before meeting the parents if seeing them in person to ask permission is really difficult. I’m not trying to over analyze my situation. Just slightly curious.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful Wednesday. 🙂
