My guy proposed to me last month, but we’re not telling our parents until we have a venue (december-ish). I live with my parents.. but they have this idea that i’m too young (22) to get married. We’re not asking for permission, just telling them about our plans, but I know it’s important for some people to have the parent’s permission.

@claireos:  I definitely think it’s possible that he can propose before he asks your parents.  It really depends on him, it sounds like he’s going that route!  And I think it’s very sweet of him.

I got engaged when I was 18 and broke up with him about 6 months later.  He didn’t ask my parents.  My parents had a fit.  I wasn’t allowed to see him anymore.  I come from a very tradtional east asian family.  My current SO comes from a very traditional hispanic family… He is planning to get my family and his family together to speak to them about the proposal and ask for a blessing from both sides.  I’m happy with this.  For me, it’s a requirement but we’re very tradtional. πŸ˜€

@Coffee cup:  Also very bold move!  But I like it πŸ™‚  Sounds like it works for you.
