I can appreciate the beauty of step cuts but I would miss the sparkle of a round.

Do you have to upgrade your current ring?  Couldn’t you get a different ring (with either an Asscher or emerald) to switch it up or wear on your right hand?

I am not a steep cut fan for myself, but think they are stunning. Emeralds have really grown on me on a thin shared prong or pave eternity band. I’d personally go with the round myself. But probably also on a thin shared prong band. So sparkly. You can’t lose really. Lucky girl!

Oh my goodness, such a hard choice!! I was debating between the Asscher and Emerald and went with an emerald. Love it!! It is still quite sparkly, but in a different way than a round. I’d say, don’t overthink it. When you imagine the ring of your dreams, what immediately pops into your mind? Choose that one!

beesknees2015 :  I say asscher but I’m biased that’s what my ring is and I love the Art Deco era hence the asscher

I like the emerald. To me it seems so classy and elegant. I’ve purchased all my diamonds online and I’ve had no problems. I’ve made sure they have all been sent fedex insured. But since you are buying substantial sized diamond, I’d be hesitant to buy online.

I have a 4.72 carat asscher and love it.  It faces up smaller than the other rings, but with a 5 carat you should be ok wink  Here is mine as a solitare before I had it set.  My ring size is 6.75.

beesknees2015 :  Thank you!!!  They are super hard to find locally; there was only one within a 30 mile radius of my house and it was a tiny estate asscher.  I bought mine online through JBE diamonds; I found the diamond on Ebay.  I saw the same diamond being sold by multiple brokers online…one was selling for 10k more than what my man ended up paying.  He also saved another 3k or so by wiring the money instead of using a credit card.  I definitely recommend buying the stone online and have a local jeweler do the setting.  However, it came as a solitare for free.  Asschers online in the size you are looking for are also not very common and often over priced.  If you go for an Asscher (and since you already have a gorgeous ring), I would suggest waiting for the right one to come on the market if there isn’t a good deal currently.  I keep looking to make sure I got an amazing deal and I can’t find a stone with my specs for less than over 40k what he paid.  However, there was a very similar one at the time I bought mine; slightly bigger with a larger table for about 5k more (the specs were a little worse—I want to say it was the same color but a VS2 so I went with mine). So excited for you!

I would go with the asscher or emerald cut! I love both. Step cuts are amazing. I have an EC 3 stone and it’s so sparkly. Three stones = three times the sparkle 🙂

It’s a much smaller center than what you are considering, but thought I would post anyway for fun! 1.02 center/.66/.72 sides G VVS2:

Set up an account on pricescope. They are diamond gurus and will help you locate a great stone online. You’ll save a fortune. Especially at that size. Check out white flash, James Allen and blue Nile. I’d compare all the vendors listed on price scope, but the people on the boards love searching for stones and they will help you. I’d trust their recommendations. You’ll get more help than here.
