My husband wants to upgrade my ring for our anniversary. So now I’m faced with all sorts of choices which is driving me crazy.
What I have currently is a three stone ring with round diamonds and it’s super sparkly but in super drawn to the step cuts! Either Emerald or Asscher. My center stone now is 2.38 with .90 on each side I would keep the side stones and upgrade to 4-4.5 in the center
I would probably do small baguettes with a large center stone if I did the step cut but am scared umm miss the brilliance of the round three stone. If we choose emerald then I’ve found a lovely 4.5 ctw and a 5 Asscher. Both are gorgeous
I like unique and feel like the emerald or asscher could make make up for the flash of the three stone round but the hubby said to just upgrade the round three stone….

I can appreciate the beauty of step cuts but I would miss the sparkle of a round.
Do you have to upgrade your current ring? Couldn’t you get a different ring (with either an Asscher or emerald) to switch it up or wear on your right hand?

I am not a steep cut fan for myself, but think they are stunning. Emeralds have really grown on me on a thin shared prong or pave eternity band. I’d personally go with the round myself. But probably also on a thin shared prong band. So sparkly. You can’t lose really. Lucky girl!

Oh my goodness, such a hard choice!! I was debating between the Asscher and Emerald and went with an emerald. Love it!! It is still quite sparkly, but in a different way than a round. I’d say, don’t overthink it. When you imagine the ring of your dreams, what immediately pops into your mind? Choose that one!

I first fell in love with the emerald because it literally looks like a swimming pool to me! Then I saw some asschers that reminded me of a perfect ice cube. I like these two cuts because I just don’t see them, especially in that size, all too often.
I also absolutely love a three stone ring but only in the rounds. I looked in the emerald and the Asscher and they just didn’t strike me the same way.
My initial is either a gorgeous big emerald or asscher. The sparkle isn’t the same but I get lost in the steps.
Our jeweler has set aside another emerald for me to look at. This one is 4.21 with the baguettes. So pretty.
I’ve also looked online on James Allen but am nervous about buying online. May post about it. Do any of you have experience with online diamond purchases?

I say asscher but I’m biased that’s what my ring is and I love the Art Deco era hence the asscher

I like the emerald. To me it seems so classy and elegant. I’ve purchased all my diamonds online and I’ve had no problems. I’ve made sure they have all been sent fedex insured. But since you are buying substantial sized diamond, I’d be hesitant to buy online.

I have a 4.72 carat asscher and love it. It faces up smaller than the other rings, but with a 5 carat you should be ok Here is mine as a solitare before I had it set. My ring size is 6.75.

Love your Asscher! My hand hand is small (and very wrinkly) with a ring size of 5.
There aren’t any Asschers in town in the size I am looking for me to try on. So frustrating.
Tomorrow we have an appointment to try on he 4-4.5 carat emeralds which I adore.
the Asscher and emerald make me swoon especially in the 3+ range.

Thank you!!! They are super hard to find locally; there was only one within a 30 mile radius of my house and it was a tiny estate asscher. I bought mine online through JBE diamonds; I found the diamond on Ebay. I saw the same diamond being sold by multiple brokers online…one was selling for 10k more than what my man ended up paying. He also saved another 3k or so by wiring the money instead of using a credit card. I definitely recommend buying the stone online and have a local jeweler do the setting. However, it came as a solitare for free. Asschers online in the size you are looking for are also not very common and often over priced. If you go for an Asscher (and since you already have a gorgeous ring), I would suggest waiting for the right one to come on the market if there isn’t a good deal currently. I keep looking to make sure I got an amazing deal and I can’t find a stone with my specs for less than over 40k what he paid. However, there was a very similar one at the time I bought mine; slightly bigger with a larger table for about 5k more (the specs were a little worse—I want to say it was the same color but a VS2 so I went with mine). So excited for you!

I would go with the asscher or emerald cut! I love both. Step cuts are amazing. I have an EC 3 stone and it’s so sparkly. Three stones = three times the sparkle 🙂
It’s a much smaller center than what you are considering, but thought I would post anyway for fun! 1.02 center/.66/.72 sides G VVS2:

Set up an account on pricescope. They are diamond gurus and will help you locate a great stone online. You’ll save a fortune. Especially at that size. Check out white flash, James Allen and blue Nile. I’d compare all the vendors listed on price scope, but the people on the boards love searching for stones and they will help you. I’d trust their recommendations. You’ll get more help than here.

Okay, I called Brian Gavin Diamonds which just so happens to be headquartered in Houston which is where I live….lucky me. I spoke to a helpful young lady and told her what I was looking for. Emerald, 4-5 ct depending on price, no lower than an I VS2 with an excellent cut. No more than $110.
I told her I was drawn to BGD because of the hearts and arrows and that he would know an excellent cut.
She said Brian was in a client meeting but took down all of my information so they could follow up.
It would take time in that’s size stone but they would reach back out to me by end of day tomorrow.
She also mentioned that BG is working on the dimensions of an excellent cut Emerald to be unveiled very soon!!! So I am pretty excited.
I went to a local jewelry store that my husband’s partners have gone to and they quoted me $145 for a 4.21 ct H VS2, excellent polish, very good symmetry and faint fluorescence. But the cut was not good. The depth is 58% and the table is 71%. In their defense it did look very very pretty even when we went outside. They then quoted a special price for us at $108. This was a week after I went in and tried on their 4.54 JVS2 for $105 but my special price of $78. I’m passing on both. I am posting the photo of the 4.21 HVS2. Pic posted.
I hope I can have the patience to not run off and buy something at the store!!!
I have settled on the emerald but then saw a GORGEOUS setting on Mark Broumand’s Instagram. If I went round I think I’d have him make me that same setting. It’s stunning. Will post a pic
I may call him even for my emerald cut dimaond setting but will wait wait to see what BG comes up with first.
I am getting excited!
