We’re thinking of having a wedding in my parents huge gorgeous yard for about 40-50 people. What should we budget for catering? I have no idea what that would cost, unfortunately, but I don’t think I need to worry about a kitchen being brought in. Any ideas or past experiences you could share?

Imagine what you would be willing to pay at a restaurant… say $25-$75 per person based on number of courses, how fancy the food is, etc. Add on an amount for beverages, say $9-$24 per person, sodas/waters up to having beer/wine. On top of that you’ll need servers, a bartender, and rentals like tables, chairs, and a tent.
Get a couple of quotes from various caterers in your area, and play with the proportions. Good luck!
