I’m trapped home on a Friday and decided to play with my makeup and do an at-home makeup trial. I’m doing my own makeup for my wedding so I wanted to start with some ideas I was thinking. First my inspirations were these:
So this is what I got for my day look. My lips are naturally super pigmented and this is me with a matte coral lip. It came out pinkier than I wanted, so I will have to adjust that. Also, I’m in between my winter and summer shades so I just used a BB. The real thing will be with either Armani or Dior foundations.
Then, I wanted to be able to switch to a more appropriate evening look, so I used the Jennifer Lawrence photo as inspiration. I went across the lid in Hustle from Urban Decay, lined the whole eye in Smashbox cream eyeliner, muted the lip with just a clear gloss, and amped up the blush. It took me about 5 minutes to switch looks. This is what I came up with….
I didn’t bother doing my brows because my brush was dirty (I used it to apply mascara to my lower lashes). What do you think? What changes do I need to make? I’m so used to doing other people’s makeup and I never wear it myself. I feel like I’ve forgotten how to do my own!

sarahalthea: I love the day look for the evening maybe a little more foundation or concealer. You did a great JOb

I like the evening look. I don’t love the day look. I also think your brows need to be done a bit (powder or gel or pencil or combo) to complete the day look. I love the lip color for the night look…

I like both looks but what is funny is that when I saw the Jennifer Lawrence inspiration photo, I thought, “I don’t like that” but when I saw your take on it, you look great.
I actually love the lip color in the first photo!

MissPine: yeah when I first saw it I felt the same way, but I liked the color combination and knew it would work on me. The biggest difference is she has fake lashes and the contouring of her shadow is a little off. They are lined perfectly though.

sarahalthea: not sure if it is the makeup or the photography but you look really blown out. Maybe more bronzer?

sarahalthea: The night look is a little too dark under your bottom lashes. Looks like the shadow was runny but everything else looks great!
ETA: looks like you plan on filling in your eyebrows so I don’t need to suggest that!

You have really pretty skin, and I think the night look is good. The day look doesn’t really show up in photos; both looks could be amped up. I would:
– Contour the sides of the nose, under your cheekbones (to make your cheeks pop), and around your jawline (to soften the shape of the jaw)
– Highlight the bridge of the nose and just above your blush
– Add an undereye concealer
– Line and shade the top lip slightly above your lipline to make the top and bottom lips more symmetrical
– Add a set of falsies and a white/nude eyeliner or shadow on the inner corners to brighten the eyes
– Fill in brows.

nuggetsoflove: I totally agree… part of that is the flash and lighting.
I played with contouring but I’m in that weird stage of too dark for my winter colors and too light for my summer bronzers. I don’t have a contouring palatte and was working with my matte bronzer. It just looked weird on my pale skin, so I had to soften it. I almost never bother countouring, so I didn’t have a kit handy.
I used Benefit hightlighter, but though it looks awsome in person, it doesn’t have the same wow in an editorial.
I did use an undereye concealer. :/ I think what went wrong was that I didn’t extend it down along the nose line and back up in a triangle bcs I wasn’t using a foundation and thought it would be too much of a color contrast (it’s one shade lighter than my skin). I also think that I should use a neutralizer.
Payless: I noticed about 10 minutes in that the fallout from my shadow was insane. Grant it, I used the naked palatte, which isn’t known for shadow quality. I think for the real thing I will have to use a paint pot just to avoid the fallout.
Might I also add that I have been laid up with a bad back and did this while on a cocktail of muscle relaxers. I’m fairly impressed with myself, given my lack of coordination. 🙂
