i just told a bunch of folks that I was ahead of the game, but this is a high-achieving group. So far:

venue booked- both ceremony and reception in the same place also includes caterer

Going to have a friend who is a minister officiate 

 booked DJ

photographer is a neighbor

picked menu

have a wedding planner who is also doing flowers

bought shoes, but no dress, getting one custom made

save-the-dates- we are having an intimate wedding and all of our family live far away

built wedding website

booked honeymoon cruise

getting cake and other desserts from Whole Foods and they only need a month’s notice

booked a block of rooms

only having a Man of Honor and Best Man for bridal party. I’ve asked, my FH hasn’t yet

May 2 wedding here. We’ve been engaged for over a year, so I have had lots of time to plan. So far we have:

booked venue for ceremony and reception

asked officiant (FI’s dad)

asked bridal party

booked dj

booked photographer

booked caterer but still finalizing menu

sent STDs (lots of out of town family)

bought my dress and veil

bought wedding rings

talking with bakery for cakes (will be using those as my centerpieces) but havent signed yet


I have an appointment next week to look a Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses with my girls and Fiance has decided he wants suits rather than tuxes but we havent finalized.

There are so many little details but I feel like most of the big things are checked off. Time is flying!

Jcal87:  We’re getting married in DC too – June 6th – you’re a bit ahead of us in some aspects. Would love to know who you went with for florist and hair/makeup – I haven’t even started looking for that!

Jcal87:  Ah! I’m getting married on the 23rd in the dmv area as well! You are so far ahead of me in terms of having things booked!

So far:

– Church booked (celebrant included)

– Photographer booked, engagement pictures done

– Reception Venue booked

– Bridal party picked out and dresses chosen

– Save the Dates ordered

– Hair Stylist booked (family friend)

– Dress and shoes purchased

– 90% of decor purchased

– DIY projects are underway!

Monk6552:  Such a great area! I’m going with Blend Events for makeup and Jewel Hair Design for hair. I spent hours last week researching and when I reached out to some people, they were already booked…it was insanely early!! I relied a lot on Wedding Wire reviews and poured through pictures of their work also really liked Creative Images for hair and Marti from Tica for makeup (she was super responsive and sweet) As for florist, my future mother in law’s best friend has a small floral store in Virginia so we’re going with her…didn’t really look into others. Happy to help in any way if you’d like more suggestions for hair/makeup!

I’m May 24th and I feel behind even though everyone around me acts like I have plenty of time! So far we have

– Booked a chapel 

– Booked the reception venue

– Decided on a caterer (need to send deposit this week)

– Decided on a photographer (engagement pics in September) 

– Blocked hotel rooms 

– Bought a dress and veil, have my jewelry and know what shoes I’m going with 

– Asked bridal party and chosen outfits to rent for guys, girls choosing their own dress 

– Have friendors lined up for DJing and flowers 

– Booked rehearsal dinner spot and decided menu

I need to work on an officiant and our website as the next big steps!

Jcal87:  I’m trying to get all DIY stuff done ~2 months before the wedding so it’s less to stress about as it gets closer! I will also have to take a look at some of the makeup artists that you had recommended!

For our May 23, 2015 wedding we’ve:

-Venue booked

-Dress and shoes in possession

-Bridal party Picked

-Caterer booked

-Honeymoon booked

-Bridesmaid dresses in possession

-Officiant chosen

-Photographer booked

-Booked cake

-Purchased DIY supplies for:

     -Escort Cards



-And my biggest accomplishment so far…. we are 90% done building 65 benches that will be both reception seating and ceremony seating for our guests!!!


Unfortunately we’re DIYing a TON of stuff and haven’t really gotten started yet (besides the benches). Fiance is living in a different state for the summer but will be back (in ONE WEEK, eeeep!) and then we’ll get moving!!

  • Bridal party picked, still have to ask Flower Girl but her parents know
  • First table mock-up
  • Bought Cake toppers
  • Table runners bought
  • Bridesmaid or Best Man gifts bought, great sale from Nordstrom’s
  • Groomsmen and groom’s ties bought
  • Groom bout. pin bought
  • Fabric and other supplies for fabric flower bought
  • Gifted 38 flower vases
  • Bought stamps for wedding invitations and RSVP postcards
  • Bought RSVP postcards
  • Hotel block made close to venue
  • Disney trip post wedding blocked for friends and family
  • Ceremony music decided on
  • Dance and entrance songs picked
  • Favors/escort card holders purchased (one of the things I’m most excited about!)

Things started on but need to be finalized:

  • Guest list 95% finalized
  • Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, 90% decided just want to see one of the girls in it before I decide.
  • Caterer decided on just need to book and have full tasting
  • DOC decided on just need to book, going with Venue
  • Ask Flower Girl to be a part of our wedding
  • Order paper and envelopes for DIY invitations
  • Transportation for day of and post wedding vacation
  • Goal of 200 fabric flowers finished by end of Aug and 500 by early Oct.
  • Centerpiece animals being found by friends and family to spray gold
  • Hunting down 150-200 gold chargers
  • Schedule engagement shoot
  • MUA
  • Research and purchase “ordination” for officiant or decide court house prior to wedding
  • Make table runners
  • Invitation design started

Things we’re thinking about but not close to a decison:

  • Full Groomsmen and Groom’s attire
  • wedding bands
  • Dessert cake vs cupcakes vs pie
  • Rehearsal dinner

Lots still to do but excited to have a good chunk of the big stuff already set and have a lot of DIY stuff started!

I booked my hair and MUA today, plus sent out STDs to overseas guests (will get to locals but it’s not as vital) at the weekend.  I also discovered that one of the girls in my roller derby league has a side business as a cake maker (and her work is amazing!) so that’s cake baker pretty much sorted, once I discuss it with her! Another derby sister is a graphic designer so I’ll be talking to her about our invitations too 🙂 feel like I’m getting stuff done!

I feel like I have been missing out on this board – it’s been a while. So far for our May 15 wedding, we have the following done:

– Booked ceremony location (just need to take pre cana classes this fall)

– Booked reception venue (includes catering, centerpieces, cake, uplighting, chair covers, table numbers)

– Booked photographer and had our engagment photos completed

– Booked DJ

– Booked Singer/Impersonater 

– Booked hair/ makeup artist

– Sent our save the dates

– Purchased my gown and it should be arriving in about a month

– Chose my bridal party and chose their dress (they have til October to purchase)

– Found Flower Girl dresses just need to try them on

– Purchased our favors

– Decided on DIY paper flower bouquets and have started practicing

– Designed our invitations – just need to purchase paper and print

– Booked our honeymoon cruise

– Decided on color scheme and theme 

– Finished our website

– Started our registries (only one is complete and it’s our honeymoon fund)

– First Dance song chosen

– Purchased thank you cards

– Booked hotel block

– Chose day of coordinator just need to sign contract and send deposit


I think that is it! I need to start working on the DIY stuff so I am not stressing about any of that closer to the wedding.

This looks like a lot, but I feel like we’re falling behind on the major things left to do:

 – Booked the reception venue (the owner also provides emotional support and help with wedding planning) and paid the down payment

– Got a verbal agreement with our church to hold the ceremony there (they are still drawing up the  contract, but they have given us a yes, for May 24, as the date.)

– In contact with a potential caterer and waiting to hear back from her to book our consultation and have a tasting.

– Bought my gown and am very excited about it.

– Asked bridal party

– Have a friendor who is a professional deejay. He wants to help us out, as his wedding gift to us.

– Bought garter

– Bought special faux flowers for an accessory I’m making

– Bought accessories for the bridesmaids & flowergirls

– Bought supplies for our DIY wedding invitations (from a special sale at a craft store)

– Bought several cake stands and a few special serving plates to pretty-up our dessert buffet table. (Thank you thrift and antique stores! Our budget thanks you, too lol.)

– Asked a friendor if I could book with her next year to do my hair

– Had a free wedding make-up consultation from a Mary Kay consultant, who is friends with Maid/Matron of Honor (now I have some ideas)

– Took engagement photo

– Designed our Save The Date

– Mailed 75% of Save The Dates

– Began discussing honeymoon options

– Found cute shoes to decorate for the ceremony (I may have to switch out to different shoes for the reception- long story!).

– Picked colors and potential theme(s)

– Chose paint shade swatches to give the bridesmaids dress-color ideas (they get to pick their own dress, with some guidelines from me)

– Began writing a newsletter for the bridesmaids introducing them to each other and with all of the dress/shoe guidelines

– Began researching a photographer

– Began discussing a wedding website

– Asked our officiant (pastor at our church)

– Found a few decorations for the reception venue

– Chosen the song for our “last dance of the night” (FI really had something he wanted our day to end with, and I couldn’t agree with him more)

– Found wedding rings

– Guest list 98% finalized

– Began discussing cake ideas

KiwiDerbyBride:  30/05/2015 = date snap!!!! : ) We’re sending save the dates out at the beginning of Sept (realised too late that STD as an abbreviation just does not work!!) as fiancé has been working abroad and we want to do personalised ones : )
