I am seating the officiant with FI’s mom because he is a friend of their family.  I think it’s nice to sit him at a “VIP” table, either with parents or grandparents, so they don’t feel like so much of an outsider.  I think even if your parents and aunts and uncles want to catch up, they may still find something to talk about with the officiant.  Our priest is a very interesting person to talk to!

As for the photographers, I had not planned on seating them with guests, but if I do end up doing this, I will seat them at a table of 6 to round it out 🙂  I guess that’s a good idea…so thanks for the tip!

The officiant is definitely going at a VIP table.  We aren’t doing a head table, so probably ours.  I think my venue sets up a separate table for the DJ, photographer, etc.

I’m seating the officiant and his wife with my mom and stepfather, and one of my mother’s friends…it works out since my mom can’t sit at the same table as my father, and my mom and stepfather can be a little socially awkward, so I wasn’t sure where to put them.  I’m pretty sure the Presbyterian minister will be able to tolerate my mother’s weirdness with grace.

@SLS79:  Ah, interesting.  Honestly, If my family didn’t know our officiant (he performed both of my sisters’ weddings) I doubt I’d be inviting him to the reception,  but I’m not sure what the etiquette is there.  I defintiely wouldn’t feel compelled to invite his wife in that case.  I am hiring a different person to do my ceremony sound and do DJ my reception, and I’m not inviting the ceremony sound guy to the reception…..I’m not inviting the florist to the reception.  It is an interesting question, though.

Wow that’s a hard one – My officiant will be not only a friend of mine, but a friend of my parents as well, and both him and his wife will know a lot of people at the wedding. I actually attended a wedding last year where he was seated with my best friend and I, as well as the grooms cousins.

The officiant will be our pastor, and we are seating him and his wife with friends from our church so that he will know someone. (Well, hopefully – we go to a big church!) But I have no idea where I’d put him if we weren’t church go-ers
