@rozzy:  I kind of do Atkins/Low GI (glycemic index) whenever I need to jumpstart my metabolism.  I usually stay in induction for 2-4 weeks and then start adding back in fruits and vegatables.  I stay away from ALL processed foods and sugar(even the “atkins” bars)and try and go light on the dairy.  Typically I will lose anywhere from 4-8 pounds in induction but that is mostly water.  I’ve been doing it off an on for a few years and it does work but there are a few things you must do:

-take a good multivitamin

-excercise- at least 30 minutes a day

-drink a TON of water.  I aim for at least 90 oz per day

-NO CHEATING for the first few weeks

At one point I was on it for 3 months and I lost 15lbs.  At that point it wasn’t so much about atkins but just eating clean, healthy food, and getting excercise.  It’s a whole new lifestyle.

Good luck!

As I, and any other professional in this field will tell you, eat right and exercise.  Progress will be slow but steady.  1 to 1.5 lbs/week is the range of weight loss you want to be in.  Do not try to lose weight faster unless you are under the guidance of a very knowledgable and experienced professional.

My father did the Atkin’s Diet and lost over 100lbs.  It worked really well for him, but it was very hard for him to continue the diet.  It didn’t teach him much about monitoring his intake (portion control), so he lapsed quite easily once he got off the diet and put his weight back on.

He is now doing portion control, watching calories, and exercising, and it’s working well for him!

@rozzy:  I did it and lost 80 lbs once. I lost forty of that in less then a month and half.

After I went off it the weight slowly came back. 🙁

I have friends who have had the same results. (Big loss but hard to keep off) I still to this day eat half the carbs of most people and it helps to maintain but not lose anymore.

I am trying the ‘zone’ diet now and it essentially works the same except you are allowed sweets and carbs but portion  control is your biggest life saver. So far it is working for me 🙂

I should laso mention that I took up weight training as well – this is working my big muscles and making them burn a lot of calories… but they say weight loss is done in the kitchen not in the gym.

@rozzy:  Yep – but once you do you have to go back to induction for two to three days.

If you think of it as punishment for cheating then you start to do it less 🙂
