I am just scrolling through for my first time.. any tips on what to avoid or what you love? I am afraid of scammers and would like some stories and experiences.. good and bad.
I think it would be best to avoid certain vendor names.. I just want a feel for what it is like and what you have all bought!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Etsy. Look at the feedback on each vendor.
It depends what you are look for. I can highly recommend KIMSMITH cluster beaded jewelry, FLOWERSBYTHEVASE real touch silk flowers, JENNYGIRLDESIGNS clutch purses, and QUIRKYCOMB cake toppers. The first is my favorite. I purchased several bracelets just because I love them in addition to my wedding jewelry.
The thing I love about Etsy is you can personalize with almost every vendor. For instance I have ordered bracelet and asked not to have orangey brown bead and it’s no problem. I took a cake topper, told vendor my vision which was quite different and she created it. Same with flowers.
Can you tell I love Etsy!!!!!!!

I love etsy. Have probably made about 20 purchases, and have never had a problem!

There are people who hate etsy?!?

Do your homework on each vendor and product. Like KatyElle said, there are a lot of resellers on Etsy, but they pretend their work’s handmade. For example, there’s a seller on Etsy that sells settings she claims she hand makes in Ireland, but they’re really mass produced Chinese settings you can buy for 1/2 the price on eBay. Unfortunately, Etsy does nothing to police this, so it’s a lot more common than it should be.

My advice is to look closely at the sellers Policies (you can find the link on the left toolbar when you’re in their shop). Every seller has different policies and it’s always handy to know if you can return something, what to do if the item is damaged, how long it will take to ship, etc.
If you’re into vintage, I’d suggest looking at SalvageLife (that’s where I bought my wedding dress) and DearGolden. Both have goregous vintage items!
Have fun shopping. 🙂 I bought a ton of our wedding stuff on Etsy.

@Neetch: haha… for real.
I <3 it. Placed lots of orders for personalized things as gifts. Very good experiences so far. I have a crazy friend who swears everytime she orders from there, she’s unhappy. But like I said… she’s crazy. Her invitations she hated, were super cute. so whatever.
I haven’t ordered any wedding stuff…. yet. Sure I will.

Thanks everyone! How about 100% positive reviews.. out of over 1000 reviews none are negative.. does that sound fishy to anyone?

I bought a garter off etsy from someone both nothing but positive reviews and it was STUNNING!! I mean I honestly was not expecting it to be that pretty.

@Seashells7: I don’t know enough about the policies to know if there is any way for sellers to get rid of bad feedback, but no, that doesn’t sound fishy to me… It sounds like a seller that would be good to buy from! I’ve had nothing but good experiences with Etsy, my engagement ring, wedding band, and all of my wedding day accessories are from various Etsy sellers. It’s like Ebay, there are scammers and there are good businesses and there are unprofessional people who make both good and bad products. You just have to do the feedback checking to see what’s what.

@Seashells7: Read through what they say. I like seeing personalzied comments… so you can see that this is a real person that had a good experience, and not just “great shipping,” you know? I would go for it! I haven’t bought a couple of things on etsy and never had a problem. My SO bought my engagement ring (still waiting for it!) from a seller on etsy and had no issues!

@Seashells7: why would that be fishy? I never buy from etsy or eBay sellers with less than 100% good feedback.
