I cannot recommend this book enough:The Diet Fix: Why diets fail and how to make your work. http://www.amazon.com/The-Diet-Fix-Diets-Yours/dp/0804137579 The author is a bariatric medicine doctor who writes a lovely blog: http://www.weightymatters.ca/ The book is essentially the anti-diet. Using sounds research and years of clinical experience, the author dispels so many diet myths out there and offers a 10-day reset plan. The 10 days is not 10 days to weight loss. It’s 10 days to reset your thinking around diets and food and give you the tools to have a healthy relationship with food. There are so many practical tips and tools through out the book- how to deal with vacations, parenting, impact of exercise, recipes at the end etc.It’s a very practical approach that acknowledges that life does and should include chocolate. Part of the 10 day reset is even indulging, and learning how to indulge, and how to survive eating out in restraurants without feeling depreived etc.The author even offers advice as to how you can use the reset with whatever current diet you may be using.The most prescriptive part of this book is probably around MINIMUM calories- don’t let yourself go hungry.The book is very much about long term weight management- losing weight is relatively easy, but it’s the keeping it off that so many people struggle with. The overarching message is clear and simple: if you are”suffering” when you lose weight, it is almost guarunteed to return. You have to actually like your life while you’re losing, not just tolerate it, or you’re setting yourself up for regain.Anyone else read this yet? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
