I am probably going to order my gown online due to cost and the fact I’m a plus size bride and don’t care for strapless gowns, so it’s hard for me to find stuff I like in stores that also fits.
I am a plus size bride with a pear shaped body, so I’m focusing mostly on A-line and ball gown style dresses. I am getting married in a Catholic church ceremony, so kind of traditional, but I am a fairly free-spirited and laidback person. However, I LOVE color. My engagement ring has blue sapphires and my wedding colors are blue and purple, so I am thinking that I might like to incorporate a splash of blue in my wedding dress somehow. Here are some of my top picks right now. Any thoughts from you guys, or suggestions on how I might combine elements of these dresses together to make the perfect dress? 🙂
Dress #1: Color Accent Dress.
I would be doing this in BLUE, not red. I also think that the amount of decoration on the bodice is just about right for my tastes. However when I ask others for opinions on colorful wedding dresses, they always seem to prefer my all-white selections. Is the color in this dress too much? Too unconventional/loud for a church wedding? I also don’t really know if the halter top style would be flattering to a plus size bride. I think I would prefer normal straps/sleeves. Do you guys agree about not doing a halter? Would this dress look all right if I asked them to incorporate straps more in the style of one of the other two dresses?
Simple Modern dress: My fiance has a preference for sleek, modern designs so I suspect this is the dress he would like most. 🙂 I like the ruching, which I think is flattering. I do like its simplicity but I am wondering if it might be so simple that I would feel bored with it, especially because it doesn’t have any other colors (and I’m not sure how it would work if I added color accents). Would it ruin this dress if I added a satin ribbon of blue on the lower hem of the skirt? Or any other ideas on how to spice it up?
Traditional lace dress: I think this is really pretty. I really like the straps on it. However, I also think it looks kind of old fashioned. Is it TOO frumpy looking? Also, again, any thoughts on how I might add some colorful accents to it?
