Your wedding is Aug. 3? I’d send the Save-The-Date Cards in early to mid-Feb., and the invitations 6 weeks before your wedding (late June, I guess). If you do xmas cards, I would just have them be xmas cards, not combo xmas and Save-The-Date Cards.

My wedding is at the end of August and we’re sending out the Save-The-Date Cards in mid-January.  People start to plan their summers fairly early.  For invites, probably not til late June or so.

As for tacky, I dunno, I don’t really pay attention to that stuff.  But selfishly, I don’t want our Save-The-Date Cards to get mixed up with all the Christmas cards and then put away!

it’s super-early but we’ve already done our StDs because we are marrying in a town about 2 hours from where most of our friends & family live and have a good 25-30 guests coming from other countries so we thought it would be best to do them sooner rather than later.

Also getting married on the 3rd!

As for the question, this might be too late for you, but I wouldn’t have sent it as a Christmas card. As said before, it feels like it could get lost together with all the other cards. My Fiance and I just sent our Save the Dates this week, but that’s only because we’re having a destination wedding (Sweden). For the real invitation, we’re thinking April. A little earlier than the 3 months some recommend, but not too early for people to forget about the invitation because they think they have AGES to reply.

We sent ours via email and one via paper in December, primarily because MY work really encourages us to put in our vacation time and any time-off-with-travel at the start of each calendar year.  Longevity with the company is the deciding factor in the event of a conflict and I am sixth, which is another reason I put time in early AND have told everyone why.  I blocked out the weeks of our wedding and honeymoon and have been encouraging Fiance to do the same as his department is just a few people.  Some have asked about the date over the course of the month for different reasons.
