This is my first post, I used to post on the “other” big wedding website but was so sick of rude comments I deleted my account….
I’m getting married August 25. I designed and sewed by dress and had it finished back in February. Now, for various reasons, I’m hating it and its gotten to the point that I start crying everytime I see a pretty dress on pintrest or on a blog or something because I’m so unhappy with mine 🙁
My question is: is it totally impossible to buy a dress and get it in time for my celebration? I’m super small, so I don’t think I can buy anything “off the rack”.
I would appreciate any feedback!

I think having dress regret is pretty normal becuase there are SO many beautiful dresses out there! I feel like that on a daily basis anywyas! But to answer your question if you dislike it so much I think it might be too late to order, maybe try the used dress websites? Like preownedweddingdresses.com, they have a bunch of new ones too! Or call around local stores and see what they say? Btw I would love to see the dress!
Also, i am from Petaluma too!!! 🙂

Sorry to hear you are disliking your dress. I think that is one thing that will make a huge difference about how you feel on your wedding day! I am in Utah where the average engagement is 3 months, so people get dresses with this short time frame all the time. Ha maybe you should have a road trip and do some shoppping here:) Really though…I don’t know how small you are, but sometimes when dress shopping, being a different than average size can get you some great deals because no one else can even try the dress on.
Another option….When I was dress shopping a few weeks ago there was a girl picking up her dress. It was gorgeous! Her mom informed us that it was a size sixteeen altered to become a size 2!!! Super drastic, but make sure you find a great alterations person and get a dress you love! Maybe after trying on you will realize you do love yours and you just needed a reminder why you wanted that to start with.

David’s bridal sells all sizes off the rack.

Since you sew can you order a dress from a previous bride and then alter it to fit? Just an idea.

I think you first have to find a seamstress who can work with you. Second you need to buy off the rack or pre owned so you can get the dress right away. I think it could be done, and you should take as much time as you need to find a dress you like, don’t walk down the aisle in something you dislike.
Be organized, make a plan, maybe go to a shop try on different dresses and see which ones in terms of style you like best. Once you have an idea perhaps try to buy a sample or online from a previous bride. Good luck, I think if you dedicate enough time like a weekend to it it can be done!

I’m getting married in July and today will be my first day of dress shopping! I’m very petite, size 0. I hope I can buy a wedding dress off the rack from David’s Bridal. If they don’t have my size at their boutique, I will ask them to order it online as most of styles that I like sell online.

You can buy off the rack and tailor down! BTW, i’d also love to see photos of your current dress!

Oh no! I am sorry!
If you are feeling that strongly about your dress go and look for a different one(IF you can afford it…please, don’t go into debt.)
You should be HAPPY when you think about your wedding dress!
Hugs to you!

It’s not too late! I’m getting married the same day as you and I just bought my dream dress just one week ago!
I’m also very tiny, and I bought off the rack, and need to get it altered, but it feels amazing to finally feel good about my dress!
It sucks that you feel that way. 🙁 Try to figure out WHY you’re not happy – can you do a fix on your current dress or is it just that you’re not really feeling the love for it in general?
I’ll just tell you I was pretty much forcing myself to like my other dress and then as soon as I found this one off the rack it was total love! You shouldn’t have to force yourself to like it – it’ll take away from your day.
Go into dress stores and ask straight out what you can buy off the rack. You’ll probably get a great price too. If you don’t find anything, then maybe your current dress is the right one, but then at least you’ll know!

“Comparison is the theif of joy.”
There are sometimes that I think my dress isn’t sufficient either, and I wonder if it’s good enough. I also see beautiful dresses on pinterest and on here and I compare mine to theirs. Sometimes I think our expectations get set way too high on fancy special dresses that have more unique touches a styles. Soon though, all these over the top dresses are going to become run-of-the mill looking too.
What made you fall in love with the dress to begin with? Or did you never really like it?
If there is something made you love it, focus on those aspects. You may be able to re fall in love with your dress.
If you’ve always hated your dress then I think there’s still plenty of time. I found my dress at a consignment shop and it fit me quite well. I think there’s time for you to find one of the rack and tailor it down. That shouldn’t take too long. If you’re wanting to make a new one or order one then there might not be enough time.
Good luck though! I’m glad you switched to WB.
I’d LOVE to see your old dress though too!

I would love to see your dress as well. There is always Church Street Bridal. They sell sample gowns for a fraction of the cost.

@mandigrl04: good quote!
I agree, make sure you know why you dislike the dress you made yourself. Is it only because of comparisons?
as a two-dress bride myself, I can sympathize. I ordered mine online way too soon and regretted it months later. I got lucky and found a dress off the rack on sale for $200 (and my first dress was $250) so I can’t beat myself up too badly over it- especially since i’m totally in LOVE with my second dress.
so, I think you need to get really clear with yourself WHY you want a new dress, and get input from you ‘maids, besties, Mom, whoever. (I personally showed my fiancee, and when she agreed it didn’t flatter me, we went together to the bridal shop and when I saw the look on her face with me in the new one, I was sold).
then, if you want to buy a second dress, dont’ despair. You WILL find one off the rack or pre-owned and make alterations. and post pics for the Hive!!

You still have several months!

You still have tons of time, especially since you’re at the end of August. Would you consider getting knock off gown made from those china sites? I think their timeframes are pretty short.
