- Wedding: June 2013
My wedding was beautiful and amazing and I got to spend an entire weekend surrounded by my favorite people. Everything was almost perfect, but I just need to vent about the things that weren’t perfect because DH is getting annoyed with me dissing on our amazing day.
I loved all of our vendors except for our band and the coordinator at our venue.
The band was great to work with and played really well, BUT their playlist sounded like it was four decades old!!! All of the older people enjoyed it, but all of my friends just stood around drinking all night because “there was nothing they could dance to.” UGH!! And this was after we had talked to them multiple times and emphasized over and over that we wanted “Top 40” music. Sigh. We did pay a pretty good price for them and it’s partly my own fault because I didn’t have time to get them a list of preferred artists a couple months ahead of the wedding. I am still annoyed.
Our venue was beautiful and had a lot of sentimental meaning to us. But the wedding person was horrible to work with. It was clear that she really wanted to do whatever we needed to make our wedding great, but for some reason she just didn’t understand the concept. We wanted a cocktail reception-y feel to the whole evening with food stations and no assigned seating. I talked to her about this over and over again. Luckily, we went to the venue for our rehearsal the day before and they had already done most of the set up. She had table numbers out on all of the tables!! And there were place settings, when I hadn’t wanted that at all. Also, I missed the entire cocktail hour, but I heard later that they didn’t pass any of our hors d’ouevres, but, instead, just set everything out on a table. It was presented well, but we paid a lot for those hors d’ouevres and having passed appetizers is a pretty essential part of a cocktail reception! In fact, I had initially wanted to have passed apps for the cocktail hour and the first hour or two of “dinner,” but she talked me out of it because she thought we would run out of food.
Insted of having all the waiters pass the appetizers, she told them to go up to all of our guests and take drink orders. This sounds like a nice idea in theory, but we didn’t have an all-inclusive package, but have to pay for consumption. The last thing I want is to make it easier for people to order drinks all night, especially since I think it dissuades people from keeping track of the drinks they have because they figure they can just order another one if they forget where they put the first one down.
Oh well. I just need to let these things go. It was a really beautiful day and now I’m married!!
