i REALLY, REALLY want calla lilies as the main flower (bridal bouquet, Bridesmaid or Best Man bouquet, etc.) but i’m not sure if they’re in season in august. does anyone know if they are? if they aren’t, anyone know of similar flowers that are in season??
i’m trying to save $$ like everyone else so i don’t want to have to import from elsewhere. the wedding will be in New Husband.

since it’s august right now, could you go to some local florists and see which ones are the prevalent flowers?

of course i could, silly nybride09 🙂
i just didn’t want to have to deal with a pushy florist since i don’t know of any good ones in my area, that’s all.

i was actually thinking just wandering into a florist shop browsing and checking out what they have for sale. tell them you’re thinking of buying some flowers for your [mum], just because, whatever reason if they insist on asking you what you’re looking for. you don’t actually have to engage them in a conversation re your wedding flowers.
i wasn’t trying to be flip earlier – i walk a lot and based on what the local grocery stores are selling or what the florists have in their windows, you can get an idea of what’s available (e.g. hydrangeas aren’t as common anymore)
there are also posts under pros section here for flowers / seasonality
i do know that the following are available year round: roses, gerber daisies, sunflowers.

I second LatteLove — you could even email Nancy to ask questions about specific blooms, and I’m sure she’d be willing to help you out!
