Moissy top, diamond bottom? Those are really beautiful stones! I really, really like moissanite in that cut. Wow.

DrAtkins :  They are both stunning stones, and I’m floored at how diamond-like the moissy is. I like that the moissy has the longer, thinner facets under the table and my diamond had the shorter, rounder ones.

To me, the biggest difference between diamonds and moissy in antique cuts is that diamonds display more internal contrast. In any given photo of the diamond, the darkest facet is black and the lightest is white. Whereas in a moissy, the darkest facet will be a dark grey and the lightest an off-white. For that reason, the diamond looks a bit.. crisper?

But I LOVE the softness that gives the moissy. It winds up looking even MORE pastel than the diamond, and the pastels are what made me fall in love with the OEC in the first place!

So I love them both for their own reasons. I originally wanted to get two smaller AVR moissies for a three-stone ring, but now I’m not so sure. I’m just sitting with the stone for a little longer until I know for sure how I want to set it.

And yes, the diamond is the stone that’s set in my ering in the video. The moissy is the loose stone. 🙂

duchessgummybunns :  Yes! That’s exactly how I would describe it. I just got an OEC diamond in the same ballpark size as my OEC moissanite, and in comparison the moissanite seems “fuzzier.” It also seems more firey and more pastel, so I have a secret fear my diamond will “underperform” based on my expectations from my moissanite (in terms of fire and chunky pastel flashes of light).

I really think that this is the best cut on moissanite. It’s just so gorgeous! I don’t care for the Ring Bearer because it’s too splintery and I’ve never seen a H&A moissy. But the AV moissy just blows me away.
