I am having a very small wedding (25-30 people) on a budget (or at least trying to be on a budget) but I am struggling to find low priced flowers and music.
The florist that my wedding coordinator recommended is charging AU$1000 which I find very high for such a small wedding (I dont even have bridal party)… I have a florist friend who is willing to help to make our own flowers but of course that will add more stress to the day, so I am wondering how you are going with flowers prices. I am from Melbourne, ceremony and reception are going to be in the Yarra Valley area.
Also I am finding hard to find a band or DJ, prices are very high. I am thinking about posting an add on gumtree or something like that to find a DJ/band with not a lot of experience that want to get some reviews and experience.. Not sure what else to do, we cannot spend more, but I dont want to connect my ipod only for the music, because again I need someone to be managing that to enjoy the day
Thanks for your help bees!!

Hi bee!! I am getting married in Nagambie, vic, at a winery with approx 80 guests. I have booked my dj and spent $1550. He will be there for 6 hours as DJ and will play guitar during cocktail hour. I have started collecting brown glass bottles for my tables and will add some babies breath and a few pink flowers and leave it at that. I have 3 bridesmaids so will need to get all of our flowers and have discussed a budget of $800 with my florist.
Hope that helps!

Another Melbourne bee here, also getting married at a winery in the Yarra Valley! We’ve got about 110 on our guestlist.
Our florist is charging us about $1800. This includes my bouquet, 3 bridesmaid bouquets, a junior bridesmaid bouquet, 2 boutonnieres (groom and groomsmen aren’t having any at this stage), 5 corsages, flowers for the cake, centrepieces for 10 (long rectangular) tables, and petals to line the aisle with. I am supplying all the vases for the tables and our florist will set them all up for us. She has also said that she will use any leftovers on the gift table, guest book table, the bar and the bathrooms.
A friend of mine did her own wedding flowers and she doesn’t have any floristry experience. She bought them the day before and put all the bouquets/centrepieces together (they only had 1 attendant each, which made it easier). She arranged for someone to arrive at the venue early and set up all the centrepieces. The flowers looked lovely and lasted overnight just fine.
Our three-piece band is charging us $1695. They will play for the duration of the cocktail hour and the reception (5 hours total). I found them on Facebook. They have also said that they will learn any songs that we want them to (if we want our bridal waltz or parent dances played live, for example) and have an iPod that will play music whenever they’re required to take a break (such as during dinner). We did find a DJ for our engagement party who charged about $700 for 5 hours through a DJ service I found through Google.

this is my florist I’ve booked – she’s located in Yarra valley area and she’s been lovely to liaise with so far. I’m not getting a bouquet made but she quoted me about $120 for a bridal and $15-20 for buttonhole. she’ll be doing an overhead greenery garland and some simple baby’s breath type arrangements for jars I’m providing on the tables.

If it makes you feel any better my florist is quoting $5500 + GST wahh 🙁 bridal bouquet is $220.
PHP DJs in Chirnside Park start from $600 for 5 hours which I don’t think is too bad, less than half the price of another DJ I contacted!
A few weeks ago my FI’s brother got married in Silvan and the bride did lots of DIY as they were on a budget. She ordered all the flowers from a wholesaler and made all the bouquets and centrepieces etc. It all looked great! They were allowed to access their venue the day before to set up. They also used an iPad for all their music (no DJ) and just got his 3 brothers to MC and control the music. It worked well except there was very little dancing, not sure if the lack of DJ influenced this…
Could you contact a floristry school/course to see if any students are interested in working for a reduced rate/experience?

Please don’t tell me you’ve booked Lincoln Sharpe! Im sure there are hundreds of guitar playing djs but just thinking of other brides having the experience we did gives me chills😕 We booked him 9 months before our wedding, paid our deposit etc and confirmed and he just….didn’t show up! He was hired to play guitar, dj, mc and provide all equipment and he just didn’t show or even answer his phone. It was rough😯

My friend and I did all of our wedding flowers (with zero experience) for $1000. We decorated the entire venue (80 people, 15 table arrangements, floor arrangements, 6 floral chandeliers, 5 bouquets plus boutonnieres and corsages). The venue said that they were the best flowers they’d ever had😊😊😊 It was sort of stressful arranging the delivery of the wholesale flowers but the actual arranging was so nice, we really enjoyed it!

Hi Bees! Thanks a lot for your replies and advice.. I will definetly consider the idea of DIY for the flowers.
Ohh wow 220 for a bouquet is very expensive, mine is charging 130, which I find to be the average price for that… Do you know which wholesaler your FI’s brother used for the flowers? I have seen a couple but they only sell to retailers or businesses. Silvan is actually pretty close from where my venue is
I felt in love with Yarra Valley since the first time I was there. I live in Melbourne, but I couldnt resist the chance to get married there :), more expensive though, but I did my job convincing my Fiance LOL… Which one is your winery If I can ask? Mine is Sir Paz State, not very well known, they have been opened for the public for over a year only, but its beautiful…Could you let me know your flower supplier?, 1800$ is a good price for 110 people wedding
That looks amazing. You and your friend should change your careers LOL.. Which wholesaler did you buy from?

I grew up in the country so I always knew that I wanted more of a country location for my wedding. My Future Father-In-Law grew up on a farm and my Fiance spent a lot of time there growing up, so we were very fortunate to have a similar vision! We’re getting married at Immerse – I thought it was very well known and a popular wedding venue, though most of our guests hadn’t heard of it and none of them have attended a wedding there before. I’d never heard of Sir Paz State before but I just took a quick look at the website and it looks amazing! Such a beautiful location.
Our florist is called Flora Girl. She works out of her home in Altona, but is actually moving in the next month or so (she’ll still be on the same side of Melbourne). She delivers all over Melbourne and country Victoria though, which is handy. We’re not having anything special when it comes to flowers – they’re going to be loose, lots of greenery and a mix of flowers (depending on what looks good when she goes to choose flowers). If I wanted lots of roses and peonies and stuff it would have really bumped the price up. Our centrepieces are also nothing special – we’ve got 10 tables with 9 vases on each (groupings of 3 different sizes). We’re planning to add a few more arrangements though so it’ll probably go up to about $2000.

Those flowers look fabulous!
Just a thought – you could try Airtasker for DJ’s/Musicians, may even find an affordable florist on there!
