There are some changes they are talking about but nothing will really be confirmed until the vote later in the year.

The budget hasn’t been passed yet.

I’m interested to see how this plays out too. I would think that the paid parental leave would be less susceptible to cut backs than the baby bonus. I think it’s best not to rely on any of it (and view anything that you are entitled to as a bonus.)

@Vikstar:  I think I love you lol

I have been saying this over and over – The baby bonus is just a bonus not an entiltement.

Sorry to thread jack OP, I honestly cant answer your question

@LadyElva:  well if your work doesnt pay your maternity leave you are able to receive parenting payments and family tax a and b. Which has gone up $2000 for the first child, $1000 for each after.

@LadyElva:  Understood. As a casual you are still entitled to parental leave (assuming certain conditions are met) up to 12 months. I work full time and my work place doesn’t offer paid maternity leave either.

@lisha_1988:  The Budget will be voted on soon and the Opposition have said they support the Baby Bonus change. So it’s almost certainly going to happen.

EDIT: Sorry I just realised I answered the wrong question (you asked about paid paternity leave) so I’ll remove the rest of my answer except the links:

About the baby bonus:: http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/services/centrelink/baby-bonus ).

About the budget: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-05-14/budget-2013-winners-and-losers/4689252

As far as I can tell, paid paternity leave stays, and the Opposition is promising something more generous if they win office.

From what I can gather the paid parental leave scheme stays as is, but the baby bonus is being reduced from $5000 to $2000 for the first and $1000 for any subsequent children.
