I did a Secondary education degree about 5yrs ago but never went into the field. From memory the starting salary was $40K-ish?

Not enough. lol.

I think mid 40’s starting out? But I could be off base as I studied to become a teacher 10 years ago, before throwing that out as a bad idea and pursuing another career entirely.

teachers don’t get paid enough BUT i’d feel grateful… a policemans starting salary in australia is less. :-/

I have HEAPS of friends who are teachers and they LOVE it..so go for it!

@louiseW:  No matter what the pay is I love it. I couldn’t do anything else – even on the hard days. My Fiance is a teacher also so double teacher pay will never make us rich but it’s the path we have chosen πŸ™‚

@louiseW:  Maybe you could work part time if money isn’t an issue?? This can lessen the work load sometimes.

@louiseW:  I don’t know where people get the figure of 45k as a strating. I started in 58 k and am now on 65k after my 3rd year. By the time I’m 33 (provided I don’t take maternity leave) it will go up to 95k. Plus three months holidays a year !!
