I voted half to the quarter carat. I’m only speaking on behalf of my friends though. The ones with diamonds are in that size range & then are many non-diamond rings (even some without stones at all). I love this size range. I think it is just perfect.I also love all of the untraditional rings.

I read somewhere that the average size around eastern PA/south NJ is somewhere between 1.25-1.75.  I’m close but do not fall in that range nor do any of my bride friends.

Most stones here are no bigger than a half a carat. It is a rural/farming community.

I would have guessed at 1 carat, but I googled my city (Boston) and one place says 1.61 and another 1.8-2.0.  Wow.

@kay01: I totally voted 1.51-1.75 and then saw your comment! Good to know I wasn’t far off 🙂

I think in my area the norm is about .75-1.00. Maybe slightly larger. Where my Fiance is from, my ring is definitely on the upper end of the spectrum.

@kay01 – what search terms did you use?  I just tried average diamond carat weight for north carolina and could not find anything.

@notevenclose: “average carat size engagement ring Boston”   I can’t promise that will get accurate results…but it did get results.

@rachiecakes: You’re spot-on.  One of the figures I remember was from 2008, so it’s likely gone up a smidge.

@kay01:  wow!  thats shocking.  I would have guessed 1-1.25.   I maybe only know of 2 people with more than 1.5.  Most people  I know are right around 1-1.25

I live in Los Angeles.  I voted for just above 1ct, but I googled it and popular thought seems to be around 2ct… CRAZY!  Mine is .4ct!  No wonder my Fiance is always telling me he sees giant rings at the hospital!  (I picked my ring out and LOVE the size.  I’m a teacher and have small hands so I wanted something not so flashy).

@pinkshoes: Yeah, same!  I do question the validity of that figure they gave.  But, I do know 2-3 with 3 carat rings which drives the average up.

Hmmm not sure. But my guess would be .7-1.2 carat. That really is just comming out of my ass though.
