well there was a gap in your poll prices… mine was $1800 for photos only!  It included an engagement session, a day after session, and printing rights to all the photos.  We ended up with just over 1000 from the wedding alone, with one photographer.

I think this is going to vary widely by geographic area. For example, in my area, every vendor we liked with a healthy pool of clients/nice portfolio was well-over $2k for photos alone (just digital images, not even albums/prints!) and over $2k for videos alone (and we’re not talking an SDE + full length movie + trailer + raw footage, but just a basic movie).

Plus, a lot of people I know had separate vendors for each, which really brings up the cost since there’s not a large package discount.

Our photographer is $3000 for engagement session, 7 hours of wedding day coverage, a 2nd shooter, hi res copies of all images, online gallary, and a $50 print credit.

I think your amounts are a bit on the low end, which is going to skew your poll. And I agree with PP that it depends on region, etc.

In my area (upstate NY), we paid $2500 for photography and $900 for video, and that is middle of the range for where I live.

We spent $700 on our photographer (we did not have a videographer but did have family with HD cameras who took some video which we then edited ourselves). Anyway, the $700 included an engagement photo session, all day coverage of the wedding with two shooters, and we got all of the pictures on HD discs without any kind of copyright to use however we wished.

We paid $2100 for a photographer, second shooter (both photographers from 10 am to 8:30 pm) rights to photos, a high res disc and an engagement shoot.

We paid A LOT for both, but everything in Toronto is ridiculous expensive. Ours were both middle range packages, and our photographer cost $3800 (two shooters, all day, HI RES disc of images and a $400 print credit) and our video was $4400 with taxes which is two shooters, 12hrs coverage, 2-3min edited video, 15-20 min highlight video, and full video of ceremony, speeches, and reception.

@NeNe G:  We lucked out! The photographer had done a friend’s wedding last year and gave us a wonderful deal. Plus, she was trying to build up her portfolio more (she had done about five weddings prior to ours) so it was somewhat of a risk. It paid off nicely though! 🙂

We spent $2995 for two photographers + high res disc (includes minimum 900-1500 photos per photographer!)(we made them write this in the contract bc my sister barely ended up with any photos on her wedding day) + engagement shoot + 12 hours of coverage + $2800 for two cinematic videographers ( includes video trailer and full cinematic edit)

@NeNe G:  yep! It seems like so much but honestly, you should have seen some of the prices we were quoted! Everything here is so ridiculously overpriced, but we’ve managed to save in other ways. Luckily, my in-laws have decided to pay for our video!

Most photographers I’ve looked at begin with basic packages around $3000, and that includes wedding day coverage, online gallery and disc with images. Some include engagement session, some do not. If you want a second shooter and album/prints, those packages are starting around $3800.

It’s really nuts, but even the not-great photographers in the area where our wedding will be are at least $2500. I’d rather pay a little more for someone whose work I love!
