We just added a rider to our renters insurance (then later, homeowners insurance).  The rider covers all our wedding bands and my e-ring and is like $40 a year or something.

Hey, I have our e-ring insured with Jeweller’s Mutual. It’s a 2.01Ct GIA cert’d stone (eyeclean SI1, E colour, Excellent cut) in a platinum setting. I had the appraiser put the wholesale value on the appraisal. He signed off at $41,500 CAD. “Retail” appraised value was ridiculous, something like $75k. I can’t afford the premium that goes along with that! If it gets lost and I’m out of the money by one or two K, so be it…

One of the appraisers I spoke with said to try to align the price on the appraisal to what it would cost to replace on bluenile.com… I went with wholesale, because $42K would be about the cost for me to replace the ring at bluenile.com.

My annual premium is $615 CAD. It’s definitely strange that they quoted you $1350/year.

Hope this helps!

I just asked for a quote through Jewellers Mutual as it has been recommended by a lot of people. I live in California and I was just quoted $1100/annually? Isn’t that crazy?  I live in a really really safe area so I don’t think thats the reason?

Not worth it at that price.
