Honestly, it depends on where you are in the country. I am in northwestern Illinois and I am at about $15 a head for dinner and cake and a non-alcohol reception. I am having an “upscale” lemonade stand in lieu of a bar. Hy-Vee is doing my catering. IF there is one in your area, look into them.

We’re doing ours at the local ball park. Theyre catering. it’s $28/pp and thats all you can eat, no alcohol. That includes a ticket to the game. No rental fee.

Ours ended up being $76 (Canadian) per person for a Sunday wedding. It was more money for the Saturday wedding per person , plus they had to pay the room rental fee when we didn’t.

This price included :

  • a day of coordinator,
  • ceremony space including set up and clean up
  • hor dourves passed during cocktail hour which included little mini shot glasses of smoothies (so yummy), and a bunch of other fancy things I can’t remember lol.
  • A buffet which was huge!! It had three different soups, 5 different salads, chicken, steak, salmon, cheesey pasta, and a gazillion different sides. Plus the dessert buffet which was to die for.
  • Champagne for toasting
  • Basic decor for the room, linens, candles, etc.
  • A free night stay in the hotel that night for us, and they had it all decorated and had champagne and chocolate covered strawberries which was really nice.
  • And we get a free night stay and dinner on our one year anniversary.

We paid for wine with dinner and all pop, juice, etc. for our guests but this wasn’t part of the package so I didn’t include that in our price above.

For my area, it was a good price. There are definitely places that would’ve been less expensive but I really loved our venue and at the end of the day I was happy with the price we paid.

Ours comes to about $154/person. This includes the ceremony on site (and rain back up!), champagne toast, passed hors’ derves (never remember how to spell that!), dinner (filet and chicken) and a midnight coney dog station (it’s in Detroit which is famous for their coneys) and a midnight sweets table with Faygo Floats and all sorts of other fun Detroit goodies! Also a 4 hour bar service “premium bar” which just means name brand stuff… so no one is too sick.. haha(this price includes tax and tip 🙂 )

Hope this helps! I think it’s best to compare sites apples to apples so find one that has everything you want and then when looking at prices elsewhere if they don’t include say a “sweets table” then find out the price to include it so you know exactly where you’re getting the most bang for your buck! Good luck!

@AlmostMrsGiles: I think your price is pretty reasonable for all that it includes.

Ours is $89 pp.  It was only $60 pp for just cocktail, dinner, and dessert buffet style, but I added the extra $29 for four hour open bar.

I’m in suburban/metropolitan (?) Ohio.

Catering is a package, but I digress – apps/dinner/rentals plus additional cake, consumption based bar (budgeting $3,000, who knows what will happen) = $78 per person.  That’s just the food and drink, not including space rental and stuff.

ETA:  if I add in the cost of my venue, $104.85 per person.  Not sure if you’re asking for that as well.

@Wedding Loans:  In what area are you experiencing receptions to be $150 – $200 per person?

Boy I probably really DO need a loan to finance my guests food!  Thank god you posted!
