My DJ is $1050 for over 6 hours and also works to MC the reception. The cost includes the ceremony music and reception music and travel fees.

I just booked my DJ last week (also MD). Ours cost $1100, including ceremony and reception music and uplighting. We did get a discount for having a Sunday wedding. I found there there are plenty of reasonable DJs out there, but I was very wary of those that seemed too good to be true cost-wise. I feel like $1000-$1200 was probably about the average I saw.

swienecke:  We just confirmed our booking with the DJ over the weekend and his prices are ridiculously reasonable, especially given this area. Its a husband and wife team with addt’l employees and he has different packages to fit different budgets.

I will pm you his contact information.

swienecke:  We paid either $800 or $900 for Frank from Friendly entertainment. 6 hours ceremony plus reception. He was great to work with, downloaded a couple of songs we wanted for free, and kept the dance floor packed all night. Our guests had a great time and DH’s cousin booked him for her wedding in a couple of months. Would highly recommend. I’m not sure where you’re located but we’re in Baltimore, she’s getting married in Havre de Grace, and I think he lives somewhere in Carroll County so seems pretty flexible about local travel. Good luck! $2000 is a TON of money.

swienecke:  DJ costs can vary widely in the DMV. I have seen quite a few in the $2000+ range, and some in the $600 range. I am paying just over $1000 for Dance Masters; they DJed for a friend’s wedding, and Fiance and I thought they did a great job.
