We skipped one as it’s not important for us.   An OK DJ outfit (the biggest in town) will send you a DJ you don’t meet in advance for $1000 for a 5 hour reception if you book at the wedding fair.  It’s another couple hundred for a flagship DJ (one you can meet before)

Our live harp for the ceremony is going to cost us $350.  If you want to find something with a great personality then you’re likely looking the range you’re posted.   *sigh* sorry… weddings are stupidly expensive.

We are on Long Island. I believe my sister got a new basic DJ for appx 1,000 when she got married 7 years ago. I was quoted as low as 1600 for a basic DJ pacakge. I ended up spending appx 2400 because we had a guitarist for cocktail hour and a photo montage. (both done through our DJ)

    wow, expensive!

Music isn’t a high priority for our wedding. FH and I don’t dance, so our short reception is mostly comprised of games/activities and mingling. We did just want to play music for anyone who wanted to dance on an ipod, but my brother and his Fiance ended up getting a DJ for us. They paid ~$300 and he is a well known professional DJ but I live in a small city in Canada so maybe that’s why it’s inexpensive compared to your prices. Good luck finding a DJ!

Working for an events company (DJ, decor lighting, and photo booth rental) our packages are $995-$2495, with the average being $1400.  That’s in Southern California.

LeeBee88:  I’m outside of NYC, and ours was $2000 including ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. He did uplighting for us for free because he had it with him from a wedding that was the night before. Honestly, I went overbudget on the DJ and I’m really glad I did, because they really have the ability to make or break the wedding in my opinion. Mine actually got the caterer hustling when they were running late and not paying attention to the time, and he did a fabulous job of not taking over with an obnoxious personality, but still had some hilarious zingers and music selections to suit the crowd. I know everything wedding is expensive, but sometimes it’s worth it.

LeeBee88:  I’m in Los Angeles and I found our DJ for 1500 which was much lower than some of the other quotes I received
