Good morning ladies of the Boston persuasion!
I am finally starting to meeting with florists for my wedding in July 2011 and the proposals are starting to trickle in. Since I am not particularly crafty, I will not be partaking in DIY’ing any part of the floral arrangments. Therefore, I am wondering if my proposals are even reasonable… which is why I am turning to you lovely ladies!
Here is the breakdown knowing that my ceremony & reception are all taking place in one location:
- (1) entry table arrangements for place cards and guest book
- (8) aisle decor (either aisle cones or small hanging vases)
- (2) altar arrangements
- (1) bridal bouquet
- (2) bridesmaid bouquets
- (1) jr. bridesmaid bouquet
- (1) flowergirl basket w/ petals
- (1) groom bout
- (9) bouts for groomsmen/dads/officient/other siblings, etc.
- (3) nosegays for mothers
- (2) grandmother corsages
- (7) sm. cocktail table arrangements
- (17) reception table arrangements
The propsals I am getting are between $3,800 and $4,800, are these reasonable prices in the Boston area or should I start looking at different florists?! And if I should, who do you suggest? I, obviously, have never planned a wedding before and don’t know if I’m being taken for a ride or not.
As always, your assistance is always greatly appreciated!

Haha, I don’t know because I’m not sure yet if we’re doing flowers, but WOW. That’s a lot of money, but you’re also getting a lot of stuff.. interested to hear what others have to say!

That actually sounds about right to me. Sad but flowers are EXPENSIVE (as you already know).

I came here to post the exact same question! Thanks, Miss Bumble, for bringing it up 🙂
I’m also wondering what are the typical costs for flowers in the Boston area ’cause I have no idea at all!
So Boston brides, how much did you pay or how much are you going to pay, for: your bridal bouquet, your Bridesmaid or Best Man bouquets, boutonnieres, and centerpieces?

My bridal bouquet was about $175, bridesmaids’ bouquets about $80, altar pieces $200 each (with vase rental), centerpieces with vase rentals were about $65 each. Bouts were $10 – $25 and corsages were about $25.

@Miss Bumble: What kind of flowers are you trying to get? Have you gotten multiple quotes to compare? You are getting a lot of arrangements…

I am honestly looking at in season items such as ranunculus, roses, dahlias, zinnias, spider mums, etc. Although, one of the florists assured me that although the flowers are in season locally, they get all of their flowers flown it because of their quality (and surprisingly they were the lower quote). So far I have two quotes and am meeting with another florist this weekend.
The bouquets range from $50 (jr. bridesmaid) to $230 (bride), the altar pieces range from $150 to $225, centerpieces range from $100 – $150.
We had hoped to make a decision by the end of next week but if I’m getting screwed, I think I will have to expand my search…

It really depends on the flowers. I have been open with my florist about keeping the budget very small, so we are using mostly cheaper flowers with just a few more expensice ones (i love ranunculus too!). Even if they are in season, they can still be pricy per stem.
If you haven’t already made a decision, try talking to florist from a budget perspective first, then figure out what kind of flowers will fit into that.

ok, I know it’s like 3 months later now, but I’m finally starting to get around to contacting some florists. Has anyone found any reasonably priced florists in the boston/north shore area?

What on earth are nosegays????
Our flowers are done by a rural country home’s flower business. They will be mixed flower arrangements for each table (like nice!) for 10-20 bucks each. That and basic rose bouquets etc maybe 300 we are spending. We have no wedding party.
Our whole wedding will be uner 5k, I can’t imagine those flower prices! lol.

@thesejoys: my FIs sister got a GREAT quote from a florist in somerville – after getting quotes of over 3,000 from everyone, this guy did the flowers for less than 2k, if you are still looking, i can ask her who the person was – we aren’t at that point yet, or i would already know! 🙂

@MissKabers: less than 2K sounds exactly like what I’m looking for! I’d love to get the name of this florist 🙂 Thanks!

@MissKabers: I’d love to know who this florist is too if you dont mind!

Sure ladies! It was Madison Florals – from what their mom says, he was great to work with and really helped them with their budget – though i will say that the flowers weren’t “over the top” they were super beautiful! the other place that I know of is more on the south shore – Floral Impressions – I can not say much about her florals for a wedding, since I have not seen her work, but she is a great florist and we know her – I have sent a couple people her way and they have been happy, so just as another option good luck! I hope that one of them works for you – or if you find another good florist for a budget – let me know! our venue offers a per table allowance at certain florists, but depending on their over all price, we might still go with one of these places 🙂

@Miss Bumble: Your estimates are pretty on target. One person quoted me about $6K! Another, about $4K. My floral needs are nearly the same as yours (6 maids & 6 grooms, 3 corsages, 2 dad bouts, 2 flower girls, 2 ceremony pieces, place card piece, 8 cocktail tables, and 22 reception tables).
Who did you decide on? I’d like to know since my wedding is not until October
