Totally agree with the poster who said it’s hard to tell how expensive a ring is just by the size. I have friends who struggle for money wearing big rocks which may or may not be diamonds and if they are who knows what cut and clarity and friends married to people off of the rich list with under 1ct rocks that are D, IF’s from Harry Winston. Can never tell which is why IMO it’s best to ignore what everyone else has and choose what suits you.

In my area, you usually see at least a carat, but usually larger. On average, I would say 1-2 carats. A lot of the younger girls seem to have halos though which can be deceiving.

- Wedding: August 2017 - Orange County, CA
I’m from Orange County, Southern California, and it’s such a mixed bag! 1 – 1.5 cts seems to be about average, but evenon my co-workers (I’m a high school teacher) I’ve seem 2+ carats!

I live in Ohio and i would say the avg size is probably anywhere from .5ct – 1ct

I think the mall stores probably have different stats than other stores. I went to 11 places before choosing a custom jeweler, and I could tell that different stores were targeting different demographics, and I bet every one of them had a different “average” on what they normally sell. In my area, if you are buying a 1+ carat, it is pretty much known to avoid the mall stores because the mark up is ridiculous compared to local jewelers.
(I would say in my area, a .75-1 carat diamond is average)

New Mexico. Pretty common to see 1/2 carat diamond. In Texas it’s more like 1 carat and up.

I live in Scottsdale, AZ so there’s money here. I’d say the average is 1.5-2.5 carats (center diamond). I have a 2.2 center diamond, tcw 3 somethin

I live in a what has historically been a working class city just outside of Toronto. Average size here is about 0.5ct. Lots of of clusters here, too. I have seen a few 1 – 1.5 ct, but definitely the minority.
Before I got engaged I happened to be in a very high end jewellery store in a very affluent suburb here. They had a gorgeous ring, 1.2 ct centre, GIA certified, ideal cut, VS2, E colour, with another 1 c.f. in the setting. That ring was priced at just under $15000 and had the largest centre stone of the rings on display.

I live in central Canada and I would say the average here is around 0.5-1.00 ct. There are lots of bigger ones too – depends on your income status. I have a 1.5 ct diamond and I consider myself very lucky to have it. 🙂

Nice to see so many Canadian bees 🙂 I am from BC but living in Seattle, WA now. My sister lives in downtown Toronto and I visited her over the summer. We went jewelry shopping and I also noticed that even the higher end stores didn’t have many large stones (over 1.5 ct) in stock. I suspect it is because they do not want to hold that inventory and have their money tied up in large diamonds that probably do not move as quickly as smaller ones, and also people are probably picker with larger stones, so they might as well not stock them and that way they can order in whatever color / clarity / size the customer is looking for.
I have a 2+ carat diamond and in my Seattle suburb it is a little on the larger side than most, but in downtown Seattle there are plenty of rings this size, and I remember from shopping around for my ring, that most of the jewelry stores downtown did carry a selection of 2+ carat diamonds in their stores.

I live in Montreal, and the majority of women here have center stones of about 0.5-0.9 (many women I know have about 0.7). A few ladies in the wealthier neighbourhoods have 1.25-1.5. I think I’ve only seen one or two diamonds bigger than ~1.75 here.

I’m from Sweden and I would say the average is probably the same as our neighboring countries at 0.2-0.5 ct. The girl who does my lashes bragged about how big her solitaire was at 0.65 ct so my ring will probably be about 3 times the average but I don’t mind. 😉

In my area of Metro Detroit (suburban cities surrounding Detroit) it’s uncommon for women to have diamond engagement rings.
the big thing here are colored gems
emeralds, rubies, chocolate diamonds
