Our wedding date is tentatively scheduled for spring, 2017. We’re thinking about a courthouse wedding with a nice dinner after- either at a restaurant or renting out a local theater and having food catered. Or, we’d have both ceremony and reception at the local theater. I’m guessing we’d have between 50 and 60 people there.
I had planned to start officially dress shopping sometime next year. I don’t want to spend a lot on a wedding dress. I’d prefer to spend $300 or under. I’ve been browsing on the typical lower-cost wedding sites (David’s, Group USA, even replica sites). But lately I’ve gravitated to looking at department stores special occasion dresses. I found a dress online at Dillards.com. I don’t have a Dillard’s in my state, so I can’t try the dress on. They have a dress in my size and the price is amazing, $63.50! Only thing is: the dress is final sale. I like the style of the dress (I wanted open back and sleeves; no color preference), but I’m not sure how it’ll look on me. Would you take the leap and purchase the dress in order to get such a great deal? Or, would you wait due to the “final sale” aspect and uncertainty with fit?

My SO and I are in the same boat: our wedding is planned for spring 2017 and I’ve just taken a leap of faith and bought a preloved gown for £600! I’m nervous that it won’t fit, but with more than a year before the wedding there’s plenty of time to resell it and find something else.
My advice would be to jump in. That dress is beautiful, and if doesn’t fit you can always sell it on for slightly less and make another bride’s day.

Do you have time to go anywhere and try on a style of dress similar to this to make sure it will look good on you?
I am hesitant to buy clothing online, but thats just me.

At that price?! Go for it! Even if you end up not loving it as a wedding gown, maybe you could use it for another ocassion?

Ms_Sophia: At that price? Unless you’re really hard done by then I’d buy it. It’s very pretty! If it didn’t fit but you loved it you may be about to get it altered?
My only concern would be that your ideas and tastes might change in the interim. But if that happened you could just wear it to a run up wedding event, or on honeymoon, or just another special occasion! That’s the joy when it’s not frilly and puffy
P.S. Your wedding idea sounds lovely!

jessc27: Thanks for the encouragement!
emmybee: That’s what I was thinking… I could resell the dress if necessary
mrsfry2015: Unfortunately, there are only one or two left in my size, so I get it now or miss the deal.
A11eycat: I never thought of just having it as a special dress, even it doesn’t work as a wedding dress. That’s a great idea!

howdoyoudo: Honestly, I was hoping for a few alterations, lol! If I purchase the dress, I’d buy in my current size. I’m in the process of losing weight right now (not for the wedding, for myself). So, I expect something will need to be altered…down…preferably!
ETA: thank you! I hope our vision comes together when the times comes

Ms_Sophia: Oh well it really depends upon your shape and where you lose the weight from in that case. I’m an hour glass so that dress would not flatter me anyway, but I know that I lose weight from the waist down so if I thought my hips would be an issue in a particular dress then that would be okay. But my chest remains the same so there’s nothing to be done for the girls!
You know your body best, so go with your gut instinct. I’m not saying that wouldn’t suit an hourglass either – if you’re petite then I think it would be nice, but I’m a 34Dear Daughter so that cut tends not to flatter my figure. I wish you all the best in your journey to a healthier you, that’s always an admirable goal 🙂

Even if it does need some alterations you could probably still come in at under $100, go for it!

I say go for it! I agree with pp you could wear it in another occasion. Just think how great it will be if it is the one and you get it for such a great price!
