My FI and I got engaged three months ago. I’m 23 in a couple weeks, but because I basically just started over in a new program in a new university, I still have three years left in my nursing program. I will be graduating in 2013, and have been wondering at how FI and I will manage to save up enough money to get married that summer while I’m attending a school that is costing me $30,000/year. FI works full time (he is 29) but is trying to pay off debt incurred before we were together (he is getting so close!) and bought 30 acres for us to build our house on, so most of his income is going to the above. The land was nonnegotiable to him since it has been in his family for many generations. Since we are having such a long engagement, we haven’t started *actually* planning anything, so the wedding has been an obsession but has not felt very real yet.
Then last night I was showing my awesome mama some of the ideas I really liked on Weddingbee and she came out of nowhere and told me that she is going to be paying for my dress (squee!!) and helping with some of the other wedding costs. I believe she is thinking wedding/reception venue rental –and luckily, it turns out that we both have the same one in mind!! Like mother, like daughter? My father (who made the majority of the household income) passed away a couple years ago, and so I hadn’t dreamed of asking my mother to help cover wedding costs, because I know that she is much tighter on money (same bills, 1/4 of the income that my parents shared). Now I don’t know what her idea of a price range for a dress is, and I will be so thankful for whatever she decides, but this just made everything seem much more real and made me much more confident that we will be able to do this the summer after I graduate and not have to wait a whole year (2014).
So, since I have been jumping up and down about this, I thought I would share some of my dress inspiration with you. I may have to go with a less expensive designer, but I am in lurve with Jim Hjelm right now. More specifically:
These are my favorites right now. I know things may change once I start actually trying dresses on. The first and last ones are definitely my front runners right now, but I have no idea if I could make them work, because I’m a bit more chesty than those ladies. I think I’m very much leaning to a romantic style. Do you have any suggestions? I’m just scratching the surface on wedding dresses!
Which one is your favorite?
