I do feel that the invitation conveys the feeling of the wedding, and since you are having a semi-formal wedding; your guests may instead think it is a relaxed/fun wedding instead due to the informality of the invitation.

However, I do love the idea of having things at the wedding that represent your personalities & interests – so maybe you can turn this into a large guestbook, or incorporate in your table numbers or something like that.

The invitation should prepare the guest for the wedding – I would come for a wedding significantly less formal than semi-formal, unfortuantely.  I don’t think it’s tacky though; it just doesn’t express the vibe you’re going for.

That’s so fun! I personally don’t care what the invite looks like compared to the wedding formality. I would do that!

I think it would be hilarious…if it went with your wedding. I would think it was weird if I got that invite in the mail, then showed up to a formal purple wedding that had nothing to do with video games. Not only that, but I would also be dressed for a casual wedding if I based it off that invite. If you want a formal wedding, you kind of have to have a formal invite, or your guests will be underdressed IMO.

I LOVE the idea and I think it’s great to incorporate touches like this that express who you are as a couple. However I do agree with the others who said an invitation prepares guests for the style of the wedding. So if you think there’s a disconnect between these nontraditional invitations and the formality of your wedding, maybe it’s not a good fit. But if you’re having other informal touches throughout the wedding I think it’s fine!

Since this doesn’t go with your wedding, I wouldn’t use them as invitations. But what if you did them as Save the Dates?

I think if people know you, which since they are coming to your wedding I hope so, and it goes with your persinality, rock it! I would love these nerdy invites! Who cares if they don’t exactly match the wedding, they match you and that is what a wedding is about.

I don’t think everything has to be matchy matchy in terms of invite -> wedding (although I used to think this), for what its worth. I think the invite should jazz up your guests to be excited about the oncoming event.  The only thing I would be concerned about is if you have a dress code, make sure to state it as all the tech geeks I know would assume from the invite that it was all about jeans, tees, and flip flops.  But they’re still super cute and I would rock them if they fit our personality!

OMG my husband would have sooooo wanted to do this if he saw this before we got married! He is the nerd in the relationship, and goes crazy over old video games, he would absolutly love it!
