So a couple weeks ago, we got a STD from some really good friends of ours. It was super cute and I was really excited about it, so I immediately texted Mr. LR. Here is the convo that ensues:
Me: “Hey Mr. LR, we just got so and so’s STD!!”
Mr. LR: “WHAT?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE HAVE A STD?! ARE THEY THAT CONTAGIOUS?! THAT’S NOT SOMETHING TO BE EXCITED ABOUT! GO TO THE DOCTOR STAT SO YOU DON’T GET INFECTED!”
Me: “… Mr. LR, STD = Save The Date…”
Mr. LR: “oh. well that’s good then! I’m sure it looks great!”
I still can’t help laughing about. Now, of course Sexually Transmitted Diseases are nothing to joke about and people suffer from them every day. However, it is funny how I didn’t even think about abbreviating STD, and even funnier how he reacted. Obviously, as I have HPV (not something I consider a STD, but a pain in the butt nonetheless), he should have known that I wouldn’t just spring something like that on him via text message.
Oh well, I wanted to share his funny with you! Has your SO done something entertaining like that lately? I’m thinking about getting him a wedding abbreviations manual for Christmas 🙂

@LaviniaRose2013: FI has gotten the abbreviations mixed up when he’s taken a peak on Weddingbee. I’m pretty sure he thought the same about STD.

Haha That’s cute! My Fiance has started using the Maid/Matron of Honor, MOB, Bridesmaid or Best Man, BM, Groomsmen, acronyms… I actually asked him where he learned it from and he said it was from all the times he has seen me reply on here and talking about it… he actually remembered them lol

LOL! I didn’t know what it was until joining WB and I have to admit the first few posts about them that I saw had me saying “what the what?”

Yeah the STD one thru me for a loop the first few days! i send emails to Fiance with abbreviations in them all the time… (SIL, Brother-In-Law, Future Sister-In-Law etc.) and he sends back “Baby please use your words” lol I wish he’d catch on… makes typing so much easier

I can’t get over STD either. Bridesmaid or Best Man is pretty bad, too!
I always find it funny when someone uses “DH” in a complaint, because it sounds so sarcastic. “My DEAR HUSBAND won’t wash his dishes”

@jeangenie: LOL at BM!! Never thought of that!!

It was my birthday last week and a bunch of his family wished me happy birthday on my facebook wall. I already call his mom and sister “FMIL” and “FSIL” on fb once in a while (his mom likes it) and so when his uncle wrote me, I called him “FUIL” when I thanked him (we have a great repor and I’m sure he got a kick out of it). When his aunt thanked me….well, that abbreviates to “FAIL” hahaha. I was telling Fiance about it and he got all worried that she would be offended. I don’t think ANYthing could offend this woman as she’s hilarious, but it was cute that he was worried and I clarified it to her anyway just to be sure.

I was the one who was confused about the acronyms at first… I was like “why are all these people talking about sexually transmitted diseases & bowel movements?”
Obviously I have figured it out a little bit but every now and then I run across some random acronym that leaves me a bit bewildered.

@Juliepants: haha that’s too funny!
I love the acronyms! They make life so much easier!

I always want to refer to my fiance as “FI” on facebook and my future mother in law as “FMIL”, but then I realize most of my facebook friends wouldn’t get the the whole acronym thing and they’d probably be like “Your what????” lol. I ALWAYS type out Fiance and Future Mother-In-Law and then have to go back and delete it and replace it with the actual word. Gah, acronyms are so much easier.

I used the acronym STD with my sister, and never again! I always type the whole phrase from now on, even here!

@futureMrsMason: I actually hate the acronym “FI”. Like, I’m sorry, but what does the “I” stand for!? All the other shortforms on here STAND for something. I’d rather call him my “DF” for dear fiance since that’s the formula ALL the other acronyms use….*grumble* lol

@Juliepants: I think its “future intended”
