Alastar was born at 7 mins to midnight on the 24/06/12, I love numbers so I liked the date from the beginning and when I realised the time was approaching midnight It gave me the reserves to push like crazy!
So I went into labour a week early and I dont know if you remember me posting about a lady client of mine who is a psychic (Unsolicited psychic advice!) who correctly “guessed?” that he would be a boy, the name graham was significant (I was put under pressure to name the baby Alexander graham as the last 4 men of his fathers side had that name), but she also said Id be a week early which I didnt believe at the time!!
Anyway 1 day preceeding alastars arrival, I live in england and my family is in Ireland – My uncle died in england (he had no other family apart from us) and I had to cross london in peak hour traffic to go to the hospital, to see him laid out and sort out all the paperwork and then drive home, the drive home alone took 3.5 hours in gridlock on the motorway- and the stress of it all definitely induced labour for me! My sister happened to be in London visiting so at least she (and her Boyf) was there with me the entire time That Night I started cramping, next day went out for a meal with my Darling Husband, sis and her Boyfriend or Best Friend and felt a bit off all day-
That night I was trying to get to sleep at 3 am and the cramps were getting more intense, to I was keeping track of them, convinced they would just abate- then next thing I felt a POP and my waters broke in the bed!
The contractions became more intense immediately and contractions were coming every 5 minutes very quickly- we rang the hosp and tole to go straight in-
In the hospital they admitted me and I was started on gas and air, I was only 3 cms dilated but the contractions were so intense and coming thick and fast.
Soon after I got an epidural ()A walking epidural so I could still feel my legs and walk around).. which was great….
It did slow the labour down but the baby was not in distress so I kept going- only being 5 cms dilated 12 hours later I was given a tiny amount of oxytocin and dilated very quickly being fully dilated at about 10.45pm…
I pushed for over an hour which was quite intense and at one stage I wanted to just give up as we seemed to be getting nowhere, but a lovely doctor came in and asked if I wanted help with traction and I informed her Id rather not but with her pushing instructions I had the baby out 10 mins later normally….I did get a second degree tear but quickly stitched up and baby was checked out, daddy cut the cord.
After a bit of skin to skin I started feeling quite unwell and spent the next 2 hours uncontrolably vomiting with poor daddy holding the baby ….
I was too exhausted to look at the baby, and didnt want anything to do with him for the first 2 hours as I was so sick – but when they but him into my arms after i was moved to a wheelchair and they put him wrapped up into my arms (After a few hours recovery we were brought to post natal ward).. I looked at his beautiful face and was washed over with the most momentous feeling of love….
That night I was too exhaused to feed the baby so he needed a bottle 🙁
but the next morning (4 hours later) I woke up to meet the most beautiful thing I have ever seen..
We were kept in the hosp for a few days as there were some anomalies in his blood that settled after a few days
and a touch of jaundice that also settled-
So we got the all clear yesterday and all is well.
We are learning how to breastfeed WHICH IS BLOODY HARD BY THE WAY and am half pumping half Boyfriend or Best Friend as Ive lost the right nipple to cracking and bleeding for the moment-
Otherwise we are happy and content and taking LO out for a walk today for the first time!!! 😀
