honestly it would be awesome to have no student loan debt, but it doesn’t impact  our ability to provide for a child. I have a student loan that I’m currently paying and a 4 year old and anothe rbaby on the way. we have a modest savings and our living expenses are not so high that we couldn’t conceivably get by on one salary indefinetly (we both make about the same). sure it would be awesome if we both made 100k and had tons of savings, but that’s just never going to happen for us, and we don’t care. now if we couldn’t make my student loan payment and pay our rent and car payments and still put away a decnt amount in savings each month I might feel differently, but then again I had my daughter at 22 as a broke single mom so I’m pretty sure we would figure it out!

My husband just started his residency and we have a ridiculous amount of med school loans. We’d be well out of (ideal) child bearing age if we waited until those suckers were paid off!

@lalabee27:  I’m currently a student, and have a 4 month old son. I’ve still got 6-8 yearseft of study which will put me in my mid 30s. Each to their own, but I’m not waiting until I’m 40 to have another.

I recently paid off my student loan; though as I am considering going back to University to become a Midwife I will end up with a $30,000+ ($24,000 more than my previous loan).

I would happily have children before paying off my student loan – in New Zealand we don’t pay interest on student loans, so it makes much more sense for me to have my money in a high interest savings account, than paying of a no interest loan.

I’ll graduate when I’m 30, and it will probably take me around 20 years to pay off my 150k of student loan debt, so no, I will definitely not be waiting until I’m 50 to try to conceive.  Having student loan debt and being financially secure are not mutually exclusive events.

If I waited to start a family once I had repaid my student loans, I would no longer be fertile.

I will likely still have some student loan debt when we start TTC. Fiance is 9 years older than me and wants kids, like, yesterday lol.

of course! If we had waited I wouldn’t have kids because mine won’t be paid off until I’m 40
