I think both variations sound better in reverse – Richard Finn or Richard Finley. You can still call him Finn. I don’t know any Finleys of either sex, but based on the way it sounds it’s probably a trendy girl’s name, yes, so if you’re concerned it’s not masculine enough, just go with Finn.

I’m all for naming kids what you’re planning to call them, so I voted for Finn.

I agree with Finn as well as I don’t see the point in nicknames.  Plus we like short quick one syllable names

If you want Richard to be the second name, I would choose Finley Richard. Finn Rich… is awkward.

If you are ok with Richard being the first name (he can still be called Finn), then either Richard Finley or Richard Finn works.

If you are going to call him Finn, I would just name him Finn. Plus, I think it flows better.  And I don’t understand calling your kid by their middle name rather than thier first at all so I wouldn’t switch the order around.

I like having the longer name that mostly the parents call them (best when in trouble) and then the nickname that everyone else calls them. Finley is definitely a boy name from Ireland.

I think Finley Richard is fine. I didn’t know it was such a popular girls’ name (maybe the trend hasn’t hit my area yet) so I’d still assume a Finley was a boy. Not that it matters at all since I love unisex names.

Our female black lab is named Finley, but people always assume she is a boy, so there’s that lol.

I think Finley Richard has a better flow, so that’s what I’d use.

I should add that I have 2 daughters, Riley and Colby, so it doesn’t really matter to me if names lean more male or female. We just chose what we liked best.

Cory_loves_this_girl:  Steph Curry’s daughters are named Riley and Ryan Carson. I always think about how he and his wife have tastes that rival ours 🙂

TheGridMonster:  I LOVE the name Ryan for a girl! If we hadn’t already had a Riley (we call her Ry all the time), I would have totally considered Ryan.

Never thought of Finley as a girl name at all!  I prefer Finley to Finn as a full name.

ETA:  I’m from the US (Midwest) if that matters for the girl name trend. Also, I prefer Finley and Finn to Flynn.

I know a girl named Finley. But I think it’s fine for a boy too. Idc for just Finn as a first name.
