One of my best friends was going to be named August if she was a boy. We call her Gus for fun sometimes as a joke.
When you’re a teacher, you end up with names that you’d never use because of former students. For example, I would never use Tristan, Devin, Logan or Jaden, because they remind me of kids I’ve had in classes.
I like "classic" names like Matthew, Michael and Jack.

I have always liked Noah and Cole. Colt is also a good one. It seems like if you want something less common though you need to steer away from all those gender neutral names and last-names-as-first names.
