Yes, but your daughter might be annoyed with the name later on in life. So maybe rethink it. : (16 votes)

@silkspectre94:  I don’t think people would say Leah. My middle name is Lea (pronounced Leah) and everyone pronounces it Leia when they see it. I think Leia would easily be pronounced the way you are intending. I also don’t think people would make fun of the “LAY” in it, lol.

I think it is a beautiful name, but I do think everyone that meets her will assume that her parents are huge Star Wars fans and probably make a comment about her name, “oh, like in Star Wars?” If that doesn’t bother you though then go for it!

I think people will definitely mispronounce it. It really hinges on how much you hate people saying Leah instad of Lay-uh

@silkspectre94:  Leia Jane is a really pretty name and I like it, especially its assosciations. The spelling thing kind of puts me off the more I think about it, though. I really hope you have infinite patience when it comes to correcting people on spelling and pronounciation, because I don’t really see a way around it.

I guess you could spell the name Laya but people might think it’s pronounced like Maya if you do that. All in all it’s a pretty name and if you aren’t worried about correcting people then I think it’s a lovely name for your future daughter.

Would you consider a different middle name?  Together they sound a bit like a joke, “I’m going to LAY a JANE!”  Jane is a term sometimes for a woman – do you know what I mean?

    That is my only critique.

There’s a great baby name site where people fill out surveys about names. Here’s the link for Leia –http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/suitability_of_Leia.html

I think it’s a lovely name but 94% said that people always or sometimes pronounced it incorrectly. EEK! Also, 98% said it was always or sometimes misspelled. That would really annoy me.
