Holden reminds me of Catcher in the Rye, but IMO he’s an insufferable character so I wouldn’t want to name a child after him.

Anderson is my favorite of these options, though I agree they are all surnames. I know using last names as given names is a tradition, but I associate it with WASPy families trying to carry on the name of an aristocratic branch of the family tree, so I find it rather pretentious.

Like PPs have said, I fully associate Holden with Catcher in the Rye, which could be annoying for his little one once he reaches high school (if they still teach that book once he gets there!) I knew a Bennett in college so it never seemed too last namey to me, plus Ben is a very easy nickname. Of course, so is Andy for Anderson, but that feels much more like a last name to me than the others, for whatever reason. I wouldn’t think anything weird if a friend named their son Bennett.

If you can’t decide, just go into the delivery room with all 3 and see what he looks like when he comes out!

namehelp :  I like Anderson and Holden. I know someone with a son named Holden and they call him “Holdie”. His school nickname (if he ever has one) is as yet TBD.

My cousin named her son her maiden name as a first name and, it’s a bit austere, but it really suits him.

I only like unique and non-traditional names, though, so take my vote with a grain of salt. I get so bored with yet another crop of Michaels and Sarahs and Elizabeths and the like.

I like Anderson! I must say, though, I personally did not find Holden to be a charming character so it puts me off the name.

These names sound like cowboys from an old Western movie. That’s not suppose to be either good or bad, just something I noticed.

    namehelp :

l don’t like surnames used as last names, so none of them sorry. Also here in Australia,  Holden is the name of our ( sadly erstwhile) premier car manufacturer so it would sound very odd here !

JiminyCricket :  I think of it being a last name, but better they’re big fans of Anderson Cooper?

I voted for Bennett (even though I think of CO US senator Michael Bennett), but I think Anders would be a great name. Anderson is too last name-y on anyone who isn’t Anderson Cooper.
