    marmar88 :  It sounds very masculine, I would have assumed a male name. People would probably shorten it to Art or Artie… not a fan of any of those names.

    It sounding masculine could well have been the point. She was a virgin hunter goddess. The opposite to what a good Attic (most of our evidence is from Athens so won’t generalise about Hellenic women of the time) woman should be. BrideK2Wings :

    Artemus Gordon from The Wild Wild West TV show! He was amazing. Yeah, I LIKE that name for a boy or a girl. It’s elegant.

    my best friend LOVED this name for a girl but ultimately decided against it because she hated the nickname “Arty” and thought she might end up being called things like “Farty Arty” etc…
