So since everyone else is asking, I guess i’ll jump on the bandwagon too. We have decided to start TTC this month and I need opinions on our names. We have decided on a boy and a girl name and were not telling our parents because his mom already got pretty mad when we discussed it a few years ago and told us they were stupid names.
For a girl we have decided on Rider and for a boy Beauden (Beau for short). Now I love the name Beauden and Rider, but I’m unsure if Rider it makes a good girls name? So I want your opinions.

I love boys names for girls. If I were you I would spell it Ryder.

I like both of them, but I think Rider may get made fun of as a teenage girl…You know how teenage boys can be.
I knew a little girl named Riley that was really cute.
There will always be people that don’t like unusal names, that’s how it goes.

Ahh! I love the name Beau for a guy! I think it’s a really nice name. I think the Beau I know is Beauregard? After the Southern general.
I’m not that big of a fan of Rider. Ryder is the spelling I like more. I would assume Ryder is a boys name though.

no and no
I agree – Rider will get teased mercilessly in high school with that name. (and please, lets remember how difficult high school is already. . )
it’s nice when parents like a name – but they’re not the ones going thru life with it. Your child’s name is something they will be dealing with their entire life.

Love Beauden, my nephew is Boden ‘Bodie’…love love!
Rider is more boy for me, and I can see potential teasing when she is older, but if you love the name, all that matters! Good luck on TTC

@PixelMePretty: “but I think Rider may get made fun of as a teenage girl…You know how teenage boys can be.”
that was my first thought. i think its a cute name. as a child of the 80s/90s, i will always think of this when i hear rider:
but also if rider was a teenage girl, i could see life being rough for her!

I’ve never heard of a girl named Rider, but why not? I also like Riley for a girl.
I like unisex names, but Darling Husband hates them. He’s all traditional and it already was a hassle to explain to him why I don’t like Thomas, Joseph, or Anthony. He didn’t like my name choices either, they were “too Irish” and he wants something “more Italian”. Last time I checked, Thomas, Joseph, and Anthony were English names. Tomasso, Giuseppe, and Antonio are Italian names.
I say if you and Darling Husband agree, which I find amazing, go for it!

@jtsing: @PixelMePretty: This was my thought, the teasing and sexual jokes would probably be enough for me to suggest avoiding Rider. What about similar names like Taylor, Ryann, Kyle, Rylie, or Piper that have the same feel but are less likely to be taunted?
Beauden is interesting but I think I prefer “Boden.”

Rider is pretty solidly a boy’s name for me (not so much unisex) and I agree with the PPs that a girl named Rider would be teased mercilessly.
I do like Rider for a boy though (spelled Ryder) so I’d suggest using it that way.
I like the name Beau but don’t really care for the full name of Beauden.

See my whole opinion on the teasing is that kids will tease no matter what, they will find fault in any name. And we like Rider because now that Ryder has become so popular I’d like to have it a little bit original. But I do understand the hestitation with Rider for a girls name we would have done Rylee but his cousin just had twins and named one Rylee 🙁 And these are the names that we both agreed on finally it took along time for him to like any names lol

@mrskrumpet: Yes, kids will tease no matter what. But lets not give them ammunition, know what I mean?
(and I have a unusual name. I was teased mercilessly)

@mrskrumpet: Sure, kids tease, but I’d rather they tease me about my name rhyming with “organ” compared to being teased about being promiscuous. I think the latter would be much more hurtful.

I like Beau a lot, and Beauden is okay. It blends in a bit with the Aiden/Jayden/Cayden/Brayden crowd, but isn’t teaseworthy or anything.
Rider automatically makes me think “ride her”. It probably doesn’t help that the only female Rider I’ve seen is on the show Jersey Shore and that nickname is… fitting.

I agree with a girl named Rider having it tough in high school. I have a girlfriend named Ryan though and I think that’s super-cute!
I actually like Beauden.
