If we combined the sounds of parts of both our first names, our kid could be Lyric. But DH hates that. I thought he’d go for it because his first name is a common name with a weird spelling from being the last five letters of his father’s first name.

@BoiledPNut: That is funny because we had the opposite problem! DH wanted Luke because of Star Wars, but I don’t like that name and we settled for putting Lucas on the maybe list.

Isla was the one girls name I loved that DH couldn’t handle. I also really like Ariel but he didn’t.

I love the name Mackenzie but he hated it. I also loved the names Summer for a girl and Chase for a boy but he pointed that would never work with his last name. His last name is Boutte(pronounced like Boo-tay… reminds people of booty). Summer “Bootay” and Chase “Bootay” would have a hard time in school :-/

@jayebaby: haha oh man, those names would be unfortunate… especially Chase. I’d try to stay away from names that can double as verbs or adjectives 😛

I love the name Ariel but DH has absolutely vetoed it due to the little mermaid.
He loves Dylan, (big bob dylan fan). I said no way to that name.

This thread reminds me of Friends when Ross and Rachel are trying to choose a baby name.
Ross: I like Ruth. What about Ruth?
Rachel: Oh, I’m sorry, are we having an 89-year-old? How about Dayton?
Ross: Veto. Stewart?
Rachel: Veto. Sawyer?
Ross: Veto. Helen?
Rachel: Veto.
Phoebe: Is it me, or is “Veto” starting to sound really good?

I really loved the name Draven. I’ve had my heart set on that since I was in junior high. My Fiance couldn’t stand it and tried to switch it with Darren, which did not happen either.

@Juliepants: LOL YES. And when they find out it’s a girl and finally agree on “Ruth,” Rachel says, “We’ll have ourselves a little baby Ruth!” and both of their faces just fall. Haha!
I love the name Brett for a boy, but my SO doesn’t 🙁

when i was prego with my daughter.. i always wanted to name her DANAE CELESTE.
i LOVE greek mythology- danae is the mother of perseus, it also is close to my mothers name Dianne & celeste means heavenly.
However my ex was not having that! he wanted to name her alyssa. we settled on DANYE ( pro nounced DON YEA ) ALYSSA.

Hm. Fiance and I discussed baby names not too long ago and he actually liked everything I picked out, haha.

The only name that my DH vetoed that I’m actually bummed about is Mae. It is my grandma’s middle name and I looooove it. It fits all my wish list (old fashioned but not trendy right now – in the 800s!, either no nickname or one i love, and a family name preferred). But he hates it. Also, our last name starts with an M and I do agree with him that Mae M— sounds a bit too cutesy.
